Whether your laptop has been stolen or you have simply lost it, it can be a scary circumstance to be there. After all, laptops carry a lot of our personal lives with them. They contain valuable information such as our bank numbers and financial information. They have also saved more sentimental things: photos of loved ones that we will never find or the novels that we will never be able to finish. Fortunately, there are several ways to track your lost or stolen laptop.
Every method is varied and there is almost certainly a way to trace it regardless of your circumstances. But keep in mind, both methods are such that you have to implement them before such an accident happens.
Let's look at the two simple ways I mentioned in the header …
Note, if you have not installed any software or / and do not know how to trace IP & # 39; s / tracing, it is best to submit a police report and inform the authorities.
Method one: Use good tracking software
The most effective and sometimes expensive way to help you track your lost or stolen laptop is to install good tracking software on the device before you actually misplace it.
I'm not going to talk about iCloud or even Android device management because they are too specific and are not suitable for the massive laptops with Windows.
The software mentioned below is also something that you should have on your laptop BEFORE an accident happens, not after!
With LoJack Standard, users can locate your laptop remotely via Wi-Fi geolocation. Wi-Fi geolocation uses the Wi-Fi positioning system (which is essentially a huge database of Wi-Fi access points) to discover the last place (s) where your laptop was connected to the Internet. Software that uses this technology is extremely useful in the hope of finding your laptop. If you upgrade to LoJack Premium, you are guaranteed laptop compensation if they cannot find your laptop.
There is also Prey that allows free and paid installation for Windows, iOS, Linux, Android and Ubuntu etc. Their free service protects up to three devices and saves up to 1
There is also Front Door Software which both offers a free and paid subscription.

There are a few more solutions that should be mentioned here, but we will discuss them in more detail at a later stage. Let's look at method number two to follow a laptop.
Method two – Gmail IP, Dropbox Sync and Social Media
Many people do not know this, but it is possible to track the IP address of your device many popular apps and services such as Gmail and Dropbox. For those of you who don't understand tech lingo, an IP address is about the same as your address on the internet. It is a unique indicator for your internet device that can be tracked and located.
If you want to track your lost or stolen laptop, finding the different IP addresses to which it has access is the easiest way to do this. To keep track of these sessions, simply go to the settings of your favorite, most used sites from a different laptop or device and check the latest login sessions.
If the thief has opened your laptop, chances are that your Dropbox will have an automatic synchronization (if there is internet) and your Gmail has been updated to download new emails.
These sessions are usually associated with IP addresses, with which you can find your lost or stolen laptop. Dropbox is great for this, because it synchronizes your information in the background, so it is technically constantly logging in.
Gmail is great if you follow a thief because they often scroll through your email to find private information. Facebook has a specific tab for login locations, which should make it easier to follow your laptop from there.
If you have a Macbook, you can also use iCloud to find it. The function is similar to the Find My iPhone app that also works via iCloud.
As you can see, losing your laptop is not the end of the world, because there are simple ways to help you find and retrieve it. Tracking software is by far the easiest, but for those who want to proactively search for their laptops or simply cannot afford the software, tracking the IP address is an equally effective alternative.
