Using maps offline

It never fails – when you need the most clues, your phone loses the signal at the most inconvenient moment. Fortunately, with Google Maps you can download your route in advance, so you never have to worry about getting lost.

1. Enter your destination in the Google Maps app.

2. At the bottom of the screen, tap the name of the place or address.

Plan the route of your entire trip, including stops.

If Google says that your journey will take seven hours but will ultimately be eight, it may be because you have not recorded multiple stops along the way. With Google Maps you can add intermediate stops so that you can get a more accurate destination time.

1. Enter your first destination in the Google Maps app, such as a gas station or a coffee bar.

2. Tap Directions .

3. Tap the menu with three dots in the upper right corner.

4. Tap Add stop . Add as many stops as you expect to take.

5. Press Done when you have finished adding stops. Now you get a more accurate ETA when planning trips.

Easily find an area to park your car

Knowing where you can and cannot park your car is essential, especially if you are late working, going to a big event such as a concert or to a stranger neighborhood. Instead of driving around and hoping you'll eventually find a parking space, use Google Maps to point you in the right direction.

1. Enter your location in the Google Maps app.

2. Tap Directions .

3. You see an icon P next to the estimated time it takes to get to that location. Tap the P (for parking). If P is red, it means that parking is limited. Blue means that finding parking will be easy or moderately difficult

4. Search for parking space .

5. A list of parking spaces appears. Select one of the options and tap Add parking . The parking space is added as the first stop on your route and you can continue to your next destination.

See what a place looks like before you go

Photos can be misleading, so before you book a hotel it looks nice, check it out first on Google Maps.

1. Search the Google Maps app for a location, such as a hotel where you can stay.

2. In the bottom left corner you see a small box with a photo of the building. This is the street scene of the area, so tap it to see what it looks like.

3. You can zoom in and out and view the area by swiping your finger on the screen.
