As President Joe Biden and Congress are now working out the details of: the next two incentive accounts, could Washington agree on a fourth stimulus check by the end of 2021? The IRS keeps sending from the third stimulus checks — to date, the agency has made nearly 167 million payments for $391 billion since the American rescue plan was passed. But as that latest round of pandemic aid draws to a close, some lawmakers are pushing for a fourth payment — either as a one-time check or a recurring payment.

At this point, President Joe Biden has not committed himself to a fourth check. Some members of Congress are asking the White House to include direct payments to struggling families new incentive proposals, citing widespread support from the public and financial analysts. Others in Washington disagree that additional emergency money is needed.

We’ll explain what’s going on with additional relief during this ongoing economic recovery. By the way, if you have a IRS letter signed by Biden to confirm your third check, you must hold it. What you need to know about a possible 4th stimulus payment

Approved in March, the American rescue plan was the first stimulus package from the Biden administration and included $1,400 checks400, $300 additional weekly unemployment benefits and a extensive children’s discount runs until 2022.

The White House has put forward two more incentive bills for 2021: the American Families Plan and the American Jobs Plan. Neither proposal calls for a new stimulus check in this stadium. However, Democratic members of the House and Senate have backed away from a fourth stimulus check, including recurring or monthly payments. In late March, a group of 10 progressive lawmakers, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, Biden to include regular stimulus payments (pdf) in its next stimulus package.

“We urge you to include recurring direct payments and automatic unemployment insurance renewals, linked to economic conditions, into your Build Back Better long-term economic plan,” the statement said. A few weeks later, a group of 21 Democrats made a similar request to Biden.

The most recent pitch for additional stimulus money came on May 17 from several members of the House Ways and Means Committee (pdf). Their letter pointed to increased poverty and mounting debt among Americans and noted that “most people spent the checks on monthly expenses or essentials such as food, utilities, rent and mortgage payments.”

Everything you need to know about additional stimulation assistance

The American Rescue Plan included three types of direct payments to individuals, including the $ 1,400 incentive check. It is possible for a future account to expand or introduce more money through direct payments that go to specific groups of recipients, such as parents earning below a certain income or those out of work.

The three types of direct payments approved in the US bailout plan were:

Stimulus Controls: The stimulus payments in front of up to $1,400 went to that one that meet the requirements?. Money also goes to certain individuals in the form of “plus up” payments .

Child Tax Credit: A temporary extension of the child discount for 2021 sends eligible families up to $3,600 for each child — you can calculate the total of your child discount here. These monthly partial payment checks, which start in July, will last until the end of the year, with a final payment in 2022.

Federal unemployment bonus: a weekly $300 unemployment bonus, as well as pandemic unemployment support to handymen and freelancers (self-employed), was extended until September 6. In Maay, however, nearly two dozen state governments have chosen to unsubscribe from the extended benefits, so millions of unemployed Americans in those states will be cut off as early as June.

Everything you need to know about the American Families Plan proposed by Biden

As part of the White House’s economic stimulus strategy, the future is American family plan may include money directly to individuals and families.

If it approves recurring payments: The proposal would be the next likely place for Congress to provide more funding in the form of a fourth or even fifth stimulus check.

If it permanently increases the child discount: Money from the extended child tax credit will start in July, with periodic payments to low- and middle-income families with children. In his speech to Congress, Biden called on the House and Senate to extend the extended children’s discount until 2025. Others, including Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney, also support making the credit permanent, saying it could lift millions of children out of poverty.

If it withstands an increase in the minimum wage: Some senators continue to look for ways to raise the federal minimum wage, which currently stands at $7.25 per hour. In his speech to Congress, Biden called on lawmakers to raise the minimum wage to $15. Sens. Romney and Kyrsten Sinema have also thrown a pay rise. Some proponents want to set the bar at an hourly wage of $15, but others want to go to $11 an hour. A February report from the Brookings Institute shows how a $15 minimum wage could help make 37% of American households financially self-sufficient.

If it extends federal unemployment benefits after September: In addition to recurring payments, some lawmakers had originally filed a request to extend federal unemployment assistance this year after Labor Day. However, like dozens of states cutting extended benefits, many Democratic congressmen are now voicing their skepticism about allowing improved unemployment relief after the September expiration date, as Politico reported in early May.
