Here are some extras your child should bring to school this year.

With Distribution of COVID-19 vaccines On an accelerated course, more cities, states and counties are preparing to reopen schools and classrooms – and not just in August or September. Some schools are evaluating shifts in their policies to leave children part-time or full-time before the end of the year, as more teachers and parents are vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Items your kids will need for class when schools reopen

For your older high school kids, a self-cleaning bottle is a great option to take to school on a daily basis. For your elementary and high school kids, choose a motivational water bottle that will remind them to drink their water.

During this time, borrowing pencils or other items is not recommended as it breaks the physical barrier between two students or student and teacher. It’s best to send your kids to school with extra pencils, paper, glue, and other items they’ll need every day.

Tissues or disinfectant wipes

Send your kids to school with a pack of tissues and / or disinfectant wipes to keep them from moving around the classroom more than necessary. Their own supply of tissues is helpful for allergies, and both wet and dry wipes can clean fingers or a spilled fabric, plus touch common items like door handles and water taps.

What about vaccines for children?

Currently, no vaccine is approved for anyone under the age of 16 – Pfizer is the only one to have an approved vaccine for teens 16 and older. Moderna and Pfizer both test their vaccines on children between the ages of 12 and 17.

Moderna expects the label for the vaccine to be expanded to people between the ages of 12 and 17 by this summer. Johnson and Johnson, and that was authorized for emergencies in February, plans to test the vaccine in children 12 and younger “soon,” including infants, reported the New York Times.

What safety protocols should be followed when I send my children back to school?

Here are some recommendations to follow when sending your kids back to class.

  • Check their temperature daily. If it is more than 100.4, keep them at home.
  • Make sure they don’t have one COVID-19 related symptomssuch as a sore throat or cough.
  • Remind them wash their hands thoroughly and often at school.
  • Remind them to distance themselves socially from others and keep their masks on unless they are eating or drinking.
  • Let them know that while it’s friendly, sharing school supplies isn’t the safest option right now.
  • When they go home from school, spray their backpacks with disinfectant spray.
