5 Productivity tips to get the most out of Gboard «Smartphones :: Gadgethacks

Gboard is often considered the best keyboard for iPhone or Android. Google made sure it was packed with features and you would expect nothing but the best when it comes to Google's own first-party software. But with so many options, a few things can slip through the cracks.

I will share five simple functions that Gboard has to offer to increase your productivity. A few of these may be known, but they may also be overlooked by some at the same time. I am here to help you recall these features and make your typing experience as productive as possible. Of course these are not the only tips out there, but they are useful nevertheless.

Download the Gboard app

Before you enter the fun productivity tips, you must download the Gboard app if you & # 39; I already have it. If you've never used Gboard before, you have a lot to look forward to. Go to the link below to get started!

Tip 1: use the & # 39; G & # 39; search icon

One of the most useful and time-saving things you may not know – being able to search the web from your keyboard is actually a thing. If you thought the Google "G" logo on the keyboard was just a logo or you forgot the function, then this is a good time to view it. Tap the "G" icon on the left and right away, you can enter anything you want in the search box.

If you wanted to search for "funny cats" to find a video and send it to your best friend (because cats), you can do it here without leaving the keyboard! When you press enter, the bottom of the screen generates a scrollable list of funny cat videos & # 39; s. You can easily share on & # 39; Share & # 39; and then on & # 39; Share card & # 39; Click to send the link via a supported messaging app.

It is clear that the above search is for fun, but in a broader sense you can use the search function for work as well. If you are doing some research for school or work, you can stay within the keyboard and save valuable time. Asking questions is one of the best applications for the Gboard search, so don't forget to ask when you want to know something!

Tip 2: Try Glide Typing for efficiency

Gboard has been offering Glide Typing function for a while, allowing you to swipe your messages instead of typing them. The setting must be enabled by default, but if this is not the case, open the Gboard app by selecting the icon on your home screen. From there, if you use Android, select "Sliding Types" and ensure that "Enable Sliding Types" is enabled. If you use iOS, select "Keyboard Settings" and enable "Sliding Types".

With smartphone screens getting bigger and bigger every year, this is a good chance to test the typing of gestures if you have not done that before. Both Android and iOS offer gesture-based system navigation anyway, so why not join in? It may take some getting used to in the beginning, but practice makes perfect! Once you get the hang of it, you should be fast.

Tip 3: Faster access to punctuation

When you have to add a point at the end of a sentence, it is simple – just tap the point button to the right of the space bar. But what about other punctuation marks such as a comma, an exclamation mark or a question mark?

Gboard has a way to add the most common punctuation marks in one tap. Hold down the point button and do not release it. A list with other punctuation marks appears. Again, without releasing, simply slide your finger to the punctuation mark that you want to use, release it and it will be added to the text field.

Tip 4: Swipe the Space Bar for Quick Edits

Another simple but useful feature that is often about it head is seen, you can actually swipe the space bar to the left and right to move the cursor with high precision. Handy if you type and edit a lot on a single line, which allows you to edit text without raising a finger. When you combine this with typing glides, you should be a text entry wizard at that time!

Tip 5: Translate text

In the international world of today the language barrier is increasingly becoming a problem. With thousands of well-known languages, searching the web and communicating with each other can be a monumental task. Fortunately, Google has long been in the field of language translation and has integrated some of this know-how into their keyboard.

Did you know that you can translate text from the Gboard app itself without ever having to leave the keyboard? It's true! Tap the ellipses (•••) at the top right of the keyboard and then choose the "Translate" button if you use Android. For iOS users, simply tap the translation icon above the "e" and "r" keys. You can now copy and paste any text you want to translate, and it does it within the keyboard.

Alternatively, you can type in English and Gboard automatically translates into the desired language as you type, which would be handy for talking to friends, classmates, or colleges in a language you don't understand. Awesome!
