Summer means more time outside. Whether you spend it by the pool or on a terrace, there is always one big problem: mosquitoes. However, it turns out that the solution may be very simple: a fan.

How does a fan help repel mosquitoes? It’s quite simple. House Beautiful spoke with David Price, a certified entomologist and pest control technical director at Mosquito Joe. While it may seem like they can strum anywhere they want, Price explains to the outlet that mosquitoes aren’t actually that good at flies.
“Setting a fan that turns on the back burner to circulate air every time you sit on the patio will help a lot,” he tells the exhaust. It’s not just a ceiling fan on your porch, either. Any type of fan will work.
Whether you already have a floor fan that you use outdoors or a simple, portable oscillating fan, the wind will help keep those pests away (and keep you cool).
