Alexa can now remind certain customers to take their medication and to request prescription refills, Amazon said in a Tuesday blog post. The company is working with Omnicell to deliver the new capabilities to Giant Eagle pharmacy customers from today.
"We will learn a lot from this first launch and we will continue to evolve the experience and expect to expand to subsequent pharmacies for years," Amazon said in the blog post.
Here's how to use the new functions:
- Enable the Giant Eagle Pharmacy skill and link your account.
- Create an Alexa voice profile and set a personal access code.
- Then say "Alexa, manage my medication" to set reminders. Alexa will help you review your current prescriptions and create reminders for taking your medication based on your preferences. When Alexa issues a reminder, customers can ask, "Alexa, what medicine should I take now?"
- If you want to request a prescription, say, "Alexa, fill in my prescription."
Amazon says these features "use multiple verification layers" to ensure that no one else has access to your recipe information with Alexa. When these new options are used, Alexa will recognize users based on their voice and then ask for their personal access code.
The company also says that customers can view and delete their voice recordings via the Alexa app, the privacy settings page or via voice.
