Android app sleep tracking may soon be less awful – Review Geek

Sleep tracking is easy to do if you own a smartwatch or fitness band, but your options are less robust if you̵

7;re using a smartphone. however, the Android development team has just made its energy-efficient Sleep API public to third-party developers, opening the door to greater quality sleep tracking apps for smartphone users.

Now developers have a more robust toolkit at their disposal for building sleep tracking apps, enabling them to upgrade existing services, create apps that provide better data selection, and conserve smartphone batteries while running.

With this API in play, you can access sleep confidence reports for up to 10 minutes at regular intervals. You can also view a broader daily sleep segment report as soon as you wake up.

Developers are currently working on combining sensor signals to determine when users start or end activities (such as running or sleeping). These detection algorithms can be inconsistent across multiple apps, and when they both constantly try to check for changes in activity levels, your phone’s battery drains faster. To make sure the Sleep API is working properly (and not draining your smartphone battery), Google partnered with Urbandroid Sleep like Android app. That app’s API centralizes detection processing in a way that doesn’t drain the battery.

Google regularly updates and adds features to its sleep and wellness software, and now that this API is open, we should hopefully see a wider variety of improved app options in the Play Store. Developers interested in creating an app can do it API documentation
