There will be times when you need to mark up a PDF, highlight specific text, or annotate something. Rather than looking for a dedicated PDF reader, you can do all of this in the Microsoft Edge web browser.
Annotate PDFs in Microsoft Edge
The PDF reader feature in Microsoft Edge allows you to annotate PDF files both offline and online. First, open an online PDF or a webpage saved as a PDF in the Edge browser. You will see the PDF toolbar when the PDF file is opened.
Click the down arrow next to the pen tool to choose a different color and adjust the thickness of the pen.
Hold down the left mouse button to start annotations anywhere in the PDF. To remove a stroke or scribbles, click the eraser button in the PDF toolbar.
When you are done annotating, click the Save button that looks like a floppy disk to save the changes and download the online PDF file.

Highlight text in PDFs in Microsoft Edge
Highlighting important text in any PDF file is easy. First, open the PDF file in which you want to highlight text. When the PDF toolbar loads, click the highlighter button or the down arrow next to it to choose a color.
Hold down the left mouse button to highlight text.
Let’s say you want to change the highlight color of the text you’ve already highlighted. Right-click on the highlight, select the “Flag” option and choose a new color (or none to remove the highlight).
When you are done, click the Save button to add all changes to the PDF file.
Add notes to a PDF in Microsoft Edge
You can include notes or comments with the highlighted text for reference purposes in the PDF files in Edge. This can be a comment, a comment about changing text or a link.
Right click on the highlighted text and select the option “Add comment”.
That brings up a comment box (which looks like a sticky note) where you can add text or links.
After adding text or a link in the comment box, click the check mark to save your comment.
When you move the mouse pointer over the comment counter, a card appears with the comment text.
How to identify fillable forms and edit PDFs in Microsoft Edge
There is no obvious way to identify fillable PDF forms online without opening them. If so, you will need to open an online PDF form to check whether or not it can be filled in Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft Edge provides visual indicators to distinguish that, with highlighted boxes in fillable (or editable) PDFs online.
Click on those boxes and type any text. If you don’t see any marked boxes, you cannot edit the PDF form in Microsoft Edge.
But you can still annotate them and highlight the text (as shown above).
