Apex Legends surprised the game world two months ago, giving a new frenetic dynamism to the Battle Royale genre of games that have already attracted 50 million players.
The first major milestone did not come at a cheap price – EA reported paid Ninja $ 1 million to stream the game. But now the question is whether Respawn can keep and transform its new, pointed legion of players.
Fortunately, for Respawn, Fortnite has paved the way to making money from this type of game and offering the game itself for free and generating revenue from a virtual department store and a percussion. The Battle Pass concept allows users to subscribe to levels and earn leather, camera and other cosmetic items.
However, Apex Legends has a unique opportunity to make Battle Pass even more attractive. Currently, the occasion is called Octane.
Octan is rumored to be the game's Battle Pass character. We know nothing but for sure, but a datamine and some allegedly leaked images have led people to believe that the octane has a shoal-shot style ability that allows him to act speed of movement for his health with another ability that allows him to recover as health out of combat situations .
But his rumor ultimate is the one that people are happy about if rumors are to be true. The Octan's ultimate ability is believed to be a starting pillow, which would allow the entire team (and enemies they assume) to bounce around during a fight.
There is a curious twist. When we wait for the launch of Battle Pass, Respawn has placed a handful of the same launch items in the game around the Marketplace on the map.
This asks for the origin: Are the starter pads simply a static addition to the map itself or is Respawn testing out the coming ultimate ability octane? In both cases, octane represents an interesting opportunity for Respawn and the Apex Battle Pass.
Because Apex Legends is built on a hero system where individual characters give unique skills, weapons and tools to the game, Apex can offer new hero characters as part of the Battle Pass. This differs from Fortnite's range of virtual products that offer no advantage in the game and are just cosmetic.
A new character, complete with abilities and skills that can lead to your success, can break up a lot of FOMO among unchallenged people about the Battle Pass.
On the other hand, Respawn could potentially rush out new paid content when it has work to do on the game as it already launched. The explosive growth of the game led to serious server problems early and the warehouse has continued to confuse top players. It also introduces another set of abilities / weapons to balance the rest of the game.
With that said, time is the company's biggest enemy. New content and hopefully more enticing gun coma should invite a new wave of growth because the core user base is being rebuilt. Balancing the urgency with the time needed to build a polished, beautiful season is worthy of the content is the real issue.
Respawn seems to be handling the pressure well and some believe that the battle pass has already been delayed to ensure a polished launch. For now, it's a waiting game.
