Belkin’s Face-Tracking iPhone 12 Mount does less than you might expect – Review Geek

Belkin is releasing a holder for the iPhone 1

2 that follows your face and automatically moves with you. At only $ 65, it only costs a fraction of the cost of Amazon’s Echo Show 10 (which has a similar tracking feature and costs $ 250) and, oh yeah, that means Amazon won’t put a camera in your home.

The face recognition magnetic phone holder can rotate 360 degrees horizontally, so you can put it on your counter or in your home gym and it automatically follows you while you cook, clean or exercise. However, you have to make the vertical adjustments manually, although you can rotate it from -15 to 30 degrees. It also uses Apple’s MagSafe technology, which is handy, but that limits it to the iPhone 12 line and future compatible phones (and there’s no option in sight for Android phones or even older iPhones right now).

While the mount’s wireless design means you can literally place it anywhere without being tethered to an electrical outlet, it still requires three AAA batteries to power the motor. If you plan to use it on a regular basis, there is a chance that you will go through a lot of batteries, which can also be a bummer if you are not on the hype train for rechargeable batteries.

Perhaps the biggest downside to the device, however, is that it relies on the front camera of your phone to track your face. This means that the camera cannot record video or make video calls. Belkin offers a clunky solution though: an unreleased companion app that manages the face tracking and somehow lets you record videos and stream content from social media sites too (but still not an option for video calling). It is also optimized for one face on the screen and is not recommended for group video recording.
