Best Deodorants for 2021 – CNET

Your deodorant is probably something you don’t think about on a daily basis, but it is one of the most important parts of your personal grooming routine. Finding a good deodorant can help you move through the day with more confidence and feel more comfortable knowing you don’t have to worry about embarrassing body odor. A bad deodorant that doesn’t do much to make you feel dry is one way to quickly ruin your day.

Controlling body odor and sweat is a personal choice that depends on different lifestyle factors: Do you like scent? Do you do a lot of sweaty workouts? We̵

Arm and hammer

Before there were luxury natural deodorants, there were Arm and Hammer Essentials. I switched to this deodorant a few years after dealing with skin irritation caused or made worse by antiperspirants. This gel deodorant glides on easily (better than Native in my opinion) and the fragrance is strong on the stick, but subtle on my body. It’s sort of a cross between fresh wax and Irish Spring – the ingredient list includes cilantro, rosemary, and lavandin (a type of lavender).

It’s free from parabens but does contain baking soda, which can be irritating to the skin, although I’ve never had any problems with it. It also keeps me smelling fresh all day long.

Old Spice

Old Spice is one of the few mainstream brands that makes deodorant in a variety of scents. While Old Spice products are mostly sold to men, I make a claim that all deodorant fragrances are unisex and work for any gender.

Be warned though, out of the different versions of this stick deodorant I’ve tried (Bearglove is one of my favorites), the scents are strong, so skip this if you have sensitivities to fragrance.

Many of the deodorants come in a gel formula so you don’t have to worry about white spots. Old Spice also makes antiperspirant, so if you want to opt for the deodorant version, check the label when you shop.

Schmidt’s

I started using Schmidt’s Naturals deodorant in early 2020 because one of my New Year’s resolutions was to use more natural, sustainable products in my everyday life. Schmidt’s contains natural ingredients and embodies both properties. I love that you don’t have to sacrifice quality for them.

My favorite scent is the lavender and sage. It’s not a true antiperspirant, but personally I think Schmidt is keeping me from sweating more than other natural deodorant brands I’ve tried in the past.

Native

Native was one of the first natural deodorant options that I tried and really liked. I had to switch to the sensitive skin version first as baking soda can be irritating if you’re not used to it. But after a few months, I was able to try the regular Native products and my skin was fine.

The brand releases new fragrances on a regular basis, and they have options for every type of fragrance preference (including unscented deodorant). This paraben and aluminum free deodorant brand always has several seasonal scents, including Pumpkin Spice Latte for fall.

Megababe

I’ve tried tons of deodorants over the years, and this is the only one I could wear during a hot, humid summer and during workout classes.

When you switch to antiperspirant deodorants, it takes some getting used to, as you’re not used to feeling the sweat under your arms. Most of the natural deodorants I tried ran down my arms during a workout, leaving a coarse white streak. This one doesn’t, and the smell is great.

It contains ingredients like green tea that help odor-causing bacteria, and the formula is free of baking soda, which can cause irritation in some people with sensitive skin.

Myro

Myro is a refillable deodorant that helps reduce waste because there is no plastic dispenser that you normally get with conventional deodorants. When you purchase Myro you get a refillable box and a deodorant pod that is recyclable.

When you run out of deodorant, you can use a refill deodorant insert, which you can buy alone or by subscription. The case and pod set starts at $ 15, and subscribing to a plan can cut your costs.

Kosas

Beauty editors rave about this new Kosas deodorant serum, which feels more like a skincare product than a deodorant. The deodorant formula contains alpha hydroxy acids that fight odor-causing bacteria and prevent ingrown hairs from shaving. While the roll-on serum won’t keep you from sweating, once you do, you won’t have any body odor.

Why more people are replacing their antiperspirants with deodorants

The recent increase in people who choose deodorants instead of antiperspirants is largely related to the increase in popularity of clean beautyWith the recent wellness boom of the past 10 years, more people have begun to look for “clean” or “natural” products as part of their lifestyles, which are made without ingredients that are believed to be harmful to health.

One of the main concerns about the health effects of antiperspirants is that they contain aluminum. It has long been rumored that the aluminum in antiperspirants can cause cancer, but there are no credible studies to prove this. These rumors are even more common as natural and non-aluminum deodorants become more popular.

Aluminum in antiperspirant should block the sweat glands in your armpits so that you sweat less or not at all. So keep in mind that if you switch to a deodorant you will still sweat and that can be a big change if you are used to an antiperspirant. But deodorants can still help you feel dry and reduce odor by using a combination of other ingredients.
