Bold, italic or underline text in a fraction of a second on your iPhone «iOS & iPhone :: Gadgethacks

On a computer you have shortcut keys such as cmd-b and ctrl-i to make text bold, italic, or underlined. But how do you do this exactly on your iPhone?

Easy! Double-tap a word to highlight it and drag the indicators to select multiple words if you want. Then a menu appears. Tap "BIU" here and then select one of the four options: Bold, Italic, Underline or Strike out.

Depending on the app, you may not see this option immediately in the pop-up menu. If you do not do this, tap to the right of the pop-up to display the "BIU" option. If you still don't see it, formatting is probably not available in that specific app. Some apps, such as Messages, simply do not support it.

To undo the formatting, highlight the text again, select BIU again, then tap the formatting style again to remove it switch.
