BOTW: How to get the Hylian Shield

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still reigns as one of the best open-world RPGs in recent memory. There’s a seemingly endless expanse of areas to explore, mountains to climb, and equipment to get your hands on. Of course, there are only two devices that all Zelda fans aspire to. The Master Sword and the Hylian Shield are Link’s iconic weapons. No Legend of Zelda game would be complete without them. Being some of the most powerful weapons in the game, they are not easy to find. This guide will focus on where to find the Hylian Shield Breath of the wilderness.

BOTW – Hylian Shield location

If you̵

7;re planning an adventure for the Hylian Shield, you need to be patient. Players will have to travel deep into Hyrule Castle to find the Hylian Shield. While players can technically run to Hyrule Castle quickly to get the shield, they will run into some challenging enemies. It’s best if you take out the early stages of the game. It’s best to get a few extra hearts and powerful weapons before going after the Hylian Shield.

Once prepared and ready to go, you will want to head to the west side of the castle. You will find a narrow interior called Hyrule Castle Lockup. Here you will discover captive creatures who are not fans of Link. There are two different ways to enter Hyrule Lockup, both of which require you to find specific items during the game.

Entrance # 1 – Secret minecart entrance

Minecart entrance Hylian Shield BOTW

From the west moat, head northwest of Katah Chuki Shrine, past the water reservoir and climb one of the large pillars. From the top of the pillar, slide down the right side to keep the pillar on your left. You’re aiming for a narrow entrance to the left of a waterfall. More specifically, the entrance is located on the beach under the Eerste Poortgebouw. You can also swim across the canal and up to the beach. Be careful; there will be a handful of the elderly who want to block your path.

Once you enter the entrance, look for a rideable minecart that will take you to a wall to be bombed. Remember to use an external bomb to move the minecart. Follow the torches up a path to the left of the area. At the end of this hallway you will find a breakable wall. Blow it up and enter the prison block.

Entrance # 2 – Castle Town Prison (main entrance)

Continue along the northern edge of Castle Town Prison until you find a docked raft. It is to the left of the words ‘Hyrule Castle Moat’. Hop on the raft and use a Korok blade to drive the raft to the north end of the moat. You will find the main entrance to the prison after entering the path from you. Use a Cryonis rune to open the gate and enter the prison.

Where to find the Hylian Shield

Once inside, look for a round room full of bones. It will take some research depending on the method you used to enter the Prison Block. As mentioned, you fight against high level enemies, such as Moblins. Once you find the bones, they will gather in a mini boss fight called the Stalnox. Shoot the Stalnox in the eye to stun it. However, if you shoot an explosive arrow at the eye, it will be released. From here you wail in the eye to do massive amounts of damage. Killing the Stalnox will reward you with a chest that will contain the Hylian Shield.
