Few things are more frustrating than missing an urgent call. Whether you are waiting for a call at home but need to go shopping or be sent from your office to your mobile device, there are a few ways you can set up call forwarding to ensure that you are always ready when the phone rings.

We have everything you need to know about setting up call forwarding from your landline or office telephone.

How to forward calls on an Android phone

It is easy to set up forwarding on an Android phone, but the menus differ slightly on different phone brands, so we give you two examples. On a Samsung Galaxy you should:

  1. open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the three vertical dots at the top right and choose Settings .
  3. Scroll down and tap More settings .
  4. Tap Transfer .
  5. You can choose to Always divert Forward when busy (when you are already on a call) Forward when not answered (when you do not answer) or Forward when unreachable ( when your phone is switched off or you have no signal) . [1
    9659006] Choose your option and you will be asked to enter a telephone number. Don't forget to include the area code for landlines.

On a Google Pixel 4, do the following:

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the three vertical dots at the top right and choose Settings .
  3. Tap Call .
  4. Tap Call forwarding .
  5. Select Always forward or set rules for If busy If unanswered or If unreachable .
  6. When choosing an option, you will be asked to enter the number to which to forward to. Do not forget to include the area code if it is a landline.

How to forward calls on an iPhone

If you want to forward your incoming calls on an iPhone, this is what you do:

  1. Open the settings
  2. Scroll down and tap Phone .
  3. Scroll down and select Call Forwarding .
  4. Switching Call Forwarding
  5. Enter the number to which you want to forward calls.

If you set up forwarding on your Android phone or iPhone and it doesn't seem to work, you can try this following method, which uses carrier codes and works on smartphones or landlines.

How to forward calls from a landline or smartphone

They are gradually disappearing from use, but many people still have a landline. If you want to set up call forwarding to send incoming calls elsewhere, you can do this with the major US providers as follows. Note : these codes also work with mobile phones.

Verizon or Sprint

  1. Dial * 72
  2. Enter the telephone number to forward to
  3. Press the # key (and then the call button on mobile)
  4. You hear a confirmation tone or message and you can hang up.

AT&T or T-Mobile

  1. Dial ** 21 *
  2. Enter the telephone number to be forwarded to
  3. Press the # key (and then the call button on mobile)
  4. You hear a confirmation tone or message and you can hang up.

Deactivate call forwarding:

  • Verizon: Dial * 73
  • T-Mobile: Dial ## 21 #
  • Sprint: Dial * 720
  • AT&T: Dial # 21 #
