Google dropped some of the Pixel 4’s more gimmicky features to perfect the Pixel 5’s basics. functions ever occupied. Almost 50% more battery actually.
By increasing the battery from 2,800 to 4,080 mAh, Google offered itself the option to include a feature that Samsung has made popular with its recent phones: wireless battery sharing. With the Pixel 5’s Qi charging coil, you can charge them all Others device that supports the standard – and it’s all pretty seamless.
Step 1: Enable Battery Share
To start, open the Settings app from your app drawer and select ̵
Do note that the feature is turned off by default, as simply turning it on will drain your Pixel’s battery (even if you’re not charging another device). The function will automatically turn off after a few minutes when you stop charging other devices.
One last thing to note in this menu is the “Stop sharing battery when phone reaches” slider. The default is 10%, but if you want to make sure your Pixel has enough battery after charging the other device, you can set this slider to a maximum of 50%.
Step 2: Add the Quick Toggle (optional)
If you plan on using this feature more than once, you’ll want to add the Quick Settings switch so you don’t have to scroll through the Settings menus every time. To do that, start by swiping down twice from the top of your screen to fully expand the Quick Settings menu.
Here, tap the pencil-shaped edit button in the bottom left corner of the Quick Settings, scroll down and find the “Battery Sharing” switch. Drag it up to the darker gray area of the screen, which represents your active tiles, and drop it into place.
From now on, all you have to do is open your Quick Settings, tap the switch, then hit “OK” at the prompt to turn on Battery Sharing.
Step 3: Charge other devices
Now all you have to do is place the other device on the back of your Pixel 5 and line up the charging coils. For best results, aim right in the center of the “G” logo and fingerprint sensor. This works with any Qi device, but keep in mind that smartwatches using the Qi standard are not compatible as their inductive coils are too small.
