Every time you take a Live Photo on your iPhone, your device will also record a short audio clip. This isn’t a problem for most people, but sometimes you may not want others to hear the audio. Fortunately, it’s easy to turn off the sound on a Live Photo before sharing. Here’s how.

First, open the “Photos”

; app on your iPhone. Navigate to the Live Photo with the audio you want to delete. Tap the photo to view it.

Select the Live Photo you want to edit.

While looking at the Live Photo detail view, tap the “Edit” button in the top right corner of the screen.

Press

In “Edit” mode, tap the “Live Photo” button (which looks like three concentric circles) in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

Press

You will enter the Live Photo editing mode. Tap the yellow speaker icon in the top left corner of the screen. This will turn off the audio output for this particular Live Photo.

(If the speaker icon is gray with a line through it, the audio is already turned off.)

Tap the speaker icon in the top left corner of the screen to turn off the Live Photo audio.

After tapping the yellow speaker icon, the icon will change to a gray speaker icon with a punch through it, indicating that the audio for the Live Photo is turned off. Then tap Done.

Notice the gray speaker icon and tap Done.

After that, the next time you play the Live Photo, you will not hear any sound. And when you share it, the audio portion of the Live Photo will not be recorded.

Even though you’ve turned off the audio for that particular photo, your iPhone will keep a copy of the original Live Photo with the audio included in case you change your mind. So if you want to get the sound back open “Photos”, tap the photo again, go to “Edit Mode”, tap the “Live Photo” icon and turn the speaker button back on. Then the audio will be restored.
