Disable Bloatware for free on your Galaxy Note 10 or 10+ «Android :: Gadget hacks

You may have noticed that your Note 10 came with quite a bit of bloatware. Even the unlocked version of the phone comes with Facebook pre-installed, and if you bought it from a courier, it's much worse. Fortunately, there is a way to remove all apps that you do not want, and you do not need a root or a paid app for this.

In the past we used an app called Package Disabler Pro to do this, but there were two major drawbacks: the app cost $ 3.49 and was always removed from the Play Store. It would eventually come back with a slightly different name and URL, but the version you purchased was gone forever.

So with the Note 10 we recommend doing it the manual way. It's a little harder, but I'll guide you through it. Moreover, this method is never closed, so you can use it on your future phones once you know what you are doing.

What you need

  • Windows, macOS or Linux computer
  • Galaxy Note 1
    0 or 10+
  • USB cable

Step 1: enable developer options & USB debugging

Go to the Settings menu of your telephone and tap "About the telephone". From there, go to "Software Information" and then tap the "Build Number" entry seven times. Enter your PIN when prompted to activate the hidden Developer Options menu.

Now go to the bottom of the main Settings app page and select "Developer Options". Switch the switch next to & # 39; USB debugging & # 39; and press & # 39; OK & # 39 ;. Then connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable. If the message & # 39; Allow USB debug? & # 39; If a pop-up appears at this point, check the box next to "Always allow" and press "OK."

Step 2: Install ADB on your computer & open a command window

Download the standalone platform tools from Google on your PC package ( Linux | macOS | Windows) and then unpack the ZIP on your desktop .

Open the Terminal app (macOS, Linux) or the command prompt (Windows).

Type "cd" followed by a space and drag the platform-tools from your desktop and drop it in the command window. When the location of the folder appears in the prompt, press Enter on your keyboard.

Step 3: Check the connection

Now type "adb devices" (without the quotes) in the prompt and press enter. If you use Linux or Mac, type "./adb devices" instead. The prompt must contain a series of letters and numbers and the word & # 39; device & # 39; return. If this is not the case, consult this manual for assistance.

If you allow the & # 39; USB debug pop-up & # 39; have not seen in step 2, check your phone and you will see it now. Check the box next to "Always allow" and press "OK" in this pop-up.

Step 4: Use ADB to disable Bloatware

with ADB, we can only disable bloatware, not uninstall it. The difference is that when you switch off an app, it comes back when you reset the phone at the factory. But you won't see it in your app drawer or on your home screen, and it won't run in the background and consume system resources or use a battery.

The next thing you need is the package name of the app that you want to disable. The easiest way to get that is to install App Inspector from the Play Store:

Open App Inspector and select the app you want to remove. Copy the "Package Name" field. Now enter the following line at the command prompt on your computer and replace with the actual package name:

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0

If you are running on Mac or Linux, or if you are running Windows and that gives an error message, add a dot and a slash at the beginning of the command. So send the same command again, but with "./adb shell" at the beginning:

./ adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0

Once you do this, the app will disappear! You do not have to restart or something.

List of apps to remove

Thanks to XDA member Neo3D we have a list of the most bloatware and Samsung apps that you may want to remove. We have added some of our own discoveries to the list and cleaned up the layout to make copying and pasting easier. Again, do not forget to add a "./" at the beginning of each command if you are running on Mac or Linux.

If you crash another app

If deleting one app causes another app to crash, you can retrieve it. Simply enter the following code to replace the package name of the app that you disabled:

  adb shell cmd package install-existing

Remember to add "./" at the beginning if you have macOS or Linux used. If this does not work, the other option is to reset your phone at the factory. This returns it to the out-of-box status, including all apps that you have just disabled. Once restarted, run the process again, but this time avoid the app that caused the problem.
