Disney + plans to increase its price for the first time. The $ 1

price increase brings the basic plan to $ 7.99 per month. If you have an annual plan, your next bill will cost $ 79.99. And the Disney bundle, which includes Disney +, Hulu and ESPN +, will increase to $ 13.99 per month. You’ll get a short reprieve though, Disney won’t increase prices until March 2021.

The news came after a whirlwind of a day when Disney announced that there were ten new Marvel series, ten new Star Wars series, 15 new Disney live-action, animated, and Pixar series, plus another 15 Disney live-action, animated, and Pixar movies to be released directly on Disney + in the coming years. In total, there are fifty new projects coming to the streaming service.

Notable features are one Ahsoka series and one Rangers of the New Republic series, set in the same timeline as The Mandalorian. Rosario Dawson will star as Ahsoka, a character she just took on in a guest spot in The Mandalorian. For Marvel fans, Disney + is getting one Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in 2022, along with a series of short films titled I am tall.

Lots of announcements, such as Moon Knight, came with little more than a logo, although some may like that Obi-Wan Kenobi mentioned who would play in the play. In case of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it came as no surprise to Ewan McGregor who was on the show, but seeing Hayden Christiensen named for the role of Darth Vader did cause some shock.

In any case, it is clear that Disney plans to invest a lot of money in the original programming for the streaming service Disney +. And like Netflix and its somewhat frequent price increases, Disney seems to want to recoup some of those costs sooner rather than later.

But at $ 7.99 a month, it’s still a competitive service. After all, you get 4K and four simultaneous streams for that price. Netflix’s basic plan is $ 8.99 a month and doesn’t include 1080p (let alone 4) or simultaneous streams. And HBO Max is an astonishing $ 14.99 a month, although Warner Bros. promised to release all films in theaters and on the streaming service on the same day next year.

For now, if you want to avoid the eventual price hike for as long as possible, you only have one option: join the annual plan. Disney + doesn’t see the price hike until March, and if you pay for a year in advance, you’ll be covered until the end of that period. One thing is certain: sooner or later all streaming services will increase their prices.
