Apple TV Plus is launched today and Apple has a fairly slick temporary deal: buy a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac, and you get a free one-year trial of the company's streaming service.
But there is a snag: claiming the free trial version will automatically sign you up for a monthly subscription that starts as soon as the free trial period ends, which is automatically extended until you cancel it. Try to opt out of the automatic renewal and your free trial will end immediately, without reclaiming the months you have left for the free trial.
That means you have to get the best out of your free year, you don't have to cancel the service until just before it ends. If you now activate the free trial version, this means that you want to cancel no later than October 31, 2020 to ensure that you get the full year at no cost. (Apple says customers must cancel "at least one day before each renewal date.")
In other words, if you give Apple TV Plus a chance, you must set a reminder to cancel it a little less in a year from it assuming you do not want to continue to pay.
Other useful things to know about the free trial version of Apple TV Plus:
- Any new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac that "is suitable for the latest iOS, iPadOS, TVOS or macOS software "purchased after September 10, 2019, from Apple or an Apple-authorized reseller is included in the offer. You do not have to have purchased the latest iPhone 11 Pro to get the free subscription.
- You get three months after purchasing your device to set up the free one-year trial period (or if you purchased it before November 1, three months from November 1).
- The free annual version is & # 39; only available for a limited time & # 39 ;, which means that Apple may stop offering it at some point in the future.
- The free trial period – such as a paid Apple TV Plus subscription – is shared by your entire Family Sharing group with up to five other family members. You can also watch up to six simultaneous streams, which means that you don't have to fight against your family members to decide who can watch. The downside is that you are limited to one free trial per Apple ID / Family Sharing group, so if everyone in your family has purchased a new iPhone this year, you will still only get one free annual subscription for everyone to share.
