One of the benefits of Blu-ray and DVD is the ability to easily share discs with friends and family. Do you want to show your favorite movie? Just lend them your copy. A digital movie is not that friendly as it is usually locked to the account that bought the movie. But now there is a way to share your digitally purchased movies with friends and family – and it won't cost you or them a dime.
For the uninitiated, Movies Anywhere is a service that takes your digital movie title ownership – from iTunes (aka Apple TV), Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, Prime Video, Fandango Now, Microsoft Movies & TV, Verizon FiOS and Xfinity ̵
As if the Movies Anywhere service itself wasn't good enough, it's now working on a feature called "Screen Pass" that lets you share your movies with friends and family for free. You can only share three screen passes each month, so use them wisely. That said, the passes are flexible because you can send all three to the same person or use all three in the same movie. Here's how it all works:
Step 1: Set up a Movies Anywhere account
If you already have a Movies Anywhere account, make sure your iOS or Android app is updated and move on to the next step. However, if you don't have one, you can simply sign up and connect your digital library to the service.
Step 2: Jump the Screen Pass Beta
While we would like to say that Screen Pass is now available to anyone with a Movies Anywhere account, unfortunately we don't. Screen Pass is still under development, but that doesn't mean you have to wait until it's ready to try it out.
Movies Anywhere opened its previously closed beta to the public on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. All you have to do is register via the web form. If selected, you can try Screen Pass right away.
Step 3: Find one of your suitable movies
So, how does Screen Pass work? It's easy. To get started, go to the My Screen Eligible for Movies section of the "My Movies" tab and choose a title from your collection to share with someone. You can only swipe left or right in the list to see the available titles in your personal catalog.
You can also tap your profile icon, the gear on the next page (to open Settings ), "Screen Pass" and then "See All" next to Movies eligible for My Screen Pass . Doing so will show you a grid of movies that you can share instead of swiping through a single row.
You may not see all of your Movies Anywhere titles in your list of Screen Pass movies, as some may not be eligible due to studio and contract blockages. According to Moves Anywhere, the movies are subject to change at any time, so don't be surprised if you see a movie or two leaving the admission list. One of our accounts was able to share 39 videos out of the 51 we owned as of May 1, 2020. To see
Step 4: Find other compatible movies (optional)
Movies Anywhere stated that " approximately 80 percent "of the current catalog will be shared. To see everything you can share, on the "Explore" tab, tap the "Screen Pass Beta" ad, then browse popular movies that work with the sharing tool.
In the early stages, Screen Pass works with over 6,000 movies, including Back to the Future, Bad Moms, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Elf, The Fate of the Furious (F8 ), Groundhog Day, Happy Feet, the Harry Potter movies, Jason Bourne, The Karate Kid, The Lego Movie, Logan, Ready Player One, Role Models, Rushmore, Sing, Speed, Tombstone, Trolls and Wonder Woman.
Step 5: Share the Movie with Whoever You Want
Once selected, you can easily share it with a friend even if they don't have a Screen Pass on their account yet. Select "Screen Pass" on the movie detail page. Then tap "Send a screen pass" in the pop-up Ready to send? .
The share sheet (also called activity view) opens and you can select your sharing method. For example, you can text someone or iMessage and they will send the link with the sharing code to them. After submitting the Screen Pass for the movie, you should see a quick notification saying "Screen Pass Link Created" with a "Manage" button.
To see a list of the passes you've shared with others, just go to the Screen Pass settings. From here you can see if the person you shared a movie with accepted the invitation. If they haven't accepted it yet, you can cancel it if you want to keep one of your three passes for later or give it to someone else.
Immediately after sharing the link with someone, you can tap "Manage" on the notification, as seen above. Without that notification, you can touch your profile icon, the gear on the next screen (to open Settings ) and then "Screen Pass".
Here you can see how many screen passes you have left and which movies you have shared. If they have not yet accepted the invitation, it will expire after a week and you will not receive it until the specified day and time. You can also tap "Resend Screen Pass Link" to remind them or "Cancel" to immediately release a Screen Pass. Once they have accepted, it says “ Accepted '' next to the movie.
If someone wants to share a movie with you, tap the link when you receive the pass invitation to open it in your movies anywhere app. Then press "Accept screen pass" on the screen that describes the conditions.
Once you have accepted the film pass, you have 14 days to start the movie, and 72 hours to finish the movie once you start. If any of those timeframes expire before you've watched everything, you won't be able to complete the movie. All accepted films can be found under My accepted screen passes on the "My films" tab in the app.
If you don't accept the screen pass film, it will go back to the sender after seven days where they can reassign it. The sender can take it back and give that slot to someone else, and they can do it from their profile page in the Movies Anywhere app.
Again, as mentioned earlier, you can only send three Screen Passes per month, and they can all be for the same movie or different titles, all to the same person. It is flexible.
As long as you purchase or redeem a non-promotional digital code once every six months for a new movie that qualifies for Movies Anywhere – from any services you have associated with your account – keep your Share Rights screen . You earn those three passes on the first day of each month.
Unused screen passes are not transferred from month to month. So even if you had three unused passes at the end of April, there will only be three at the beginning of May.
Recipients everywhere need movies account to accept and watch movies. You can view accepted movies in the Movies Anywhere mobile app or on the website on a computer, but you cannot watch them through digital retailers you have synced with your account.
If you only accept screen passes from other users and don't usually buy movies online for digital viewing, you are limited to only three invited movies to start. That limit does not apply if you have purchased or redeemed a non-promotional digital code for a new movie eligible for Movies Anywhere within the past six months.
As long as you have made a qualified purchase in the past six months. , you have an unlimited number of Screen Passes that you can receive at any time.
If you have not joined the Screen Pass beta as a recipient, you can still view passes sent to you. Before accepting an invitation, you don't even see Screen Pass anywhere in the app and its settings, but after you accept it, you will at least see & # 39; Screen Pass & # 39; on the page Settings . However, it may say, "You are not eligible to send screen passes at this time."
