Setting your medical ID on the iPhone

The iPhone has a medical ID function that first responders can use to help you treat. Your ID can include all medical conditions, allergies to medicines and emergency contacts.

Here are the steps to set your medical ID on an iPhone:

1. Open the Health app and your iPhone and tap your profile photo in the top right corner.

2. Select Medical ID under the Medical Details section, followed by Edit.

3. Enter all information that you want care providers to know

4. Make sure that Display when locked is enabled.

5. After you have entered all your details and whom you should contact, tap Done .

To view your medical ID and see how it looks, as well as practice accessing someone else's medical ID, try unlocking your iPhone by swiping up on your screen. If you use Face ID, I recommend covering the True Depth camera at the top of your screen to prevent it from recognizing you and unlocking your phone.

When prompted to enter your access code, tap Emergency at the bottom of your screen, followed by Medical ID.

Setting emergency information on an Android phone

On Android the process varies depending on the brand of phone you use. In general, you should be able to open the app Settings and search for Emergency information using the search bar at the top of the screen. One of the results should take you to the right section of settings.

Samsung users can open the Phone app, select the Contacts tab, and then select My profile and scroll to the bottom of the page.

After you have found the emergency information section, enter the information that you want to share, including your medical information and emergency contacts.

Try unlocking by pressing the on / off button or tapping the screen to see what others see or practice on your phone to go to the medical info on someone else's phone. When prompted to enter your access code, tap Emergency Emergency call or a variation on that wording at the bottom of your screen. The following screen will have a different button to display Medical info .
