As states begin to reopen businesses many demand that you wear face cover when you go out in public to prevent the spread of the coronavirus . ]. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that you wear one when social distance is not possible. And as summer approaches, you may be wondering how to stay comfortable wearing a mask when the sun is hot and your face is sweating. Luckily, we have some tips for keeping you comfortable while wearing your upholstery.

Any mask you buy should fit snugly above your nose and under your chin, but not so tight that it digs into your face. It should also be made of a breathable fabric – especially if it is several layers thick.

Whether you wear a homemade face shield or a ready-made mask, always remember to wash your hands before putting on and removing the mask. Here's how to stay comfortable wearing your mask in public.

Prevent Your Ears From Getting Raw

Ear Sanding has become a common complaint when it comes to wearing face masks because of the elastic rubbing behind your ears. Fortunately, people got creative and started making buttoned headbands to attach the elastic loops around it.

If wearing a headband isn't really your style, you can always try the S-ring hook trick. To attach your face mask, take the loops and place them around each U of the hook. Make sure the S-ring is in the center of the back of your head when you wear the mask. The hook should make your mask fit your face better as the loops are pulled tight.

If you don't have an S-ring hook around your house, you can find mask hooks on Etsy in various shapes, sizes and designs. Or place a piece of folded tissue between the strap and your ear for cushioning.

Use only 100% cotton face masks and covers

Many people buy 100% cotton sheets for one reason: to keep cool. And that rule doesn't just apply to sheets – you should also look out for cotton face masks. The cotton material is considered to have better ventilation and will retain less moisture that builds up through breathing and sweating. And since your face mask can have multiple layers, you want a material that doesn't restrict your breathing.

There are also certain materials that you want to avoid, such as polyester, that can retain moisture due to its water-resistant properties.

Your face mask should be good, but not tight.

Make sure it is snug, not tight

While you want your mask to fit snugly around your face to prevent breathing droplets from escaping or coming in, you don't want it to be so tight that it hurts your face. And if it is too tight, you have less space to breathe properly.

Wear your mask at home before you leave to make sure you wear it comfortably for a long time, or long enough to go to the supermarket, for example. Adjust as needed while you are at home because the last thing you want to do is take off your mask and adjust it while you are in public.

Change your mask if it feels dirty

Now that it is getting hot outside, the life of your masks can be shorter all day long. That's because the mask can cause your face to sweat, creating moisture in the mask. Once a mask gets wet, it is no longer useful and should be replaced immediately. That's why we recommend keeping an extra mask with you if you know you've been away for a while.

When you get home, properly remove and wax your mask to clean and ready to use.

Be wary of your facial products

If you have dry skin, it is best to apply a moisturizer before wearing a mask. This can help prevent skin irritation from where the mask rubs your face. If you have oily skin, you may not want to wear a liquid foundation as that can clog your pores and cause your skin to erupt. Not to mention, the foundation can also rub on your mask, leading to reduced air filtration, making it more difficult to breathe.

If you have sensitive skin, you may want to completely abandon the makeup under your mask and cleanse your face before and after wearing a mask.
