As part of Fortnite’s Season 5, Week 12, you will have to complete another set of challenges. One of the more mysterious challenges sends you on a quest to find a family portrait from a shipwreck. Before you can achieve this goal, there are a few things you need to do first. Like many challenges in Season 5, this week’s set comes in stages, meaning you’ll need to complete the previous one before moving on to the next.
In this case, you have to complete phases 1-3, dealing damage within 15 seconds of gliding; visit Scenic Spot, Gorgeous Gorge and Mount Kay; and destroy inflatable tubes over gas stations. Once you’ve completed those stages (in that order), you can move on to Stage 4 to find a family portrait of a shipwreck. In this guide, we̵
Where can you find a family portrait of a shipwreck
The first thing to know about this challenge is that there are multiple portraits and shipwrecks you can visit to complete it. Check out the map above for reference (thanks, Fortnite.gg). The two main spots are located west of Sweaty Sands in the northwest part of the map, or southeast of Catty Corner in the right part of the map. You’ll find portraits in each of these locations, but for the challenge you only need to collect one.
With that in mind, you should choose the spot at the beginning that makes the most sense in relation to the Battle Bus path. Our experience shows that the southeast area is the least crowded so give it a try if on the go. And this is best done in a Team Rumble match so you can give it another try if you die.
Once you arrive you will find a shipwreck (as mentioned in the challenge description), with a lot of debris and items scattered around. Close to the overturned boat on the south side of this area are some wooden boxes, along with a portrait of a woman. Communicate with it simply by pressing Square on PlayStation, X on Xbox, or Y on Nintendo Switch to gain recognition for this challenge. In this particular location there is also a second portrait just to the north, so if you miss the first for some reason, you have another option if you choose to land here.
This will likely be one of the last challenges you will complete this week as it is the last one that requires you to visit a mysterious location. Either way, once you interact with one portrait you will earn 20,000 XP.
