Frigidaire employees checked all the variables, and I expected them to show me a test where their new dishwasher shone. However, the latest Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher model FGIP2468 looks good, has a reasonable price and offers a combination of features that make me think that it can be good to clean dirt from your plates and bowls.
Two wheels are better than one
Frigidaire adds a second OrbitClean wheel with water jets to the latest edition of its flagship dishwasher. We tested the OrbitClean function onand this made the dishwasher work well in our tests. Most dishwashers use spinning arms lined with rays. The OrbitClean wheel sits at one end of a spinning arm and spins separately to spray water into the corners of the machine and beat all sides of the dishes from different angles. The FGIP2468 now has one wheel both on the underside of the machine and the latest version and under the top frame as well.
Considering that a single OrbitClean wheel worked efficiently in our tests, I would expect two of them to turn out to be a potent cleaning combination. Frigidaire also refined the water wheel's design to drive water of greater intensity to help remove dirt.
The FGIP2468 will be offered in stainless steel for $ 850 or black stainless for $ 1000. The dishwasher will run at slightly quiet 49 decibels, and the extra OrbitClean wheel will probably help cut the time from its cycles.
A cold drying system
In addition to the second water wheel, FGIP2468 uses a heating element at the bottom and a fan at the top to probably improve the drying surface as well. While the heat rises naturally, the fan blows in cooler, room temperature air and directs the water into the air to a condensation chamber.
Frigidaire calls the function "MaxBoost Dry." Lab technicians showed their effectiveness during my tour by spraying a fine mist of cocoa powder and ground coffee into a newly started unit. The technicians pulled up the dishes from the competitors' machines, and the powder coagulated on water and showed clear streaks. Again, the Frigidaire FGIP2468 made the best of the gang with few visible spots.
If you want to give Frigidaire FGIP2468 a real test, you can find a reseller near you on the company website. Frigidaire rolled it out quietly last week before a planned debut at Kitchen and Bath Industry Show next week.
FGIP2468 has no spotty dishwasher functions, but if it is a good actor at a reasonable price it can lead to a convincing kitchen upgrade.
