If you have a OnePlus 3 or newer OnePlus phone, you can quickly access Google's environment mode when you connect your device. The two companies worked together to enable the feature and now it is being rolled out to OnePlus users. Environment mode allows you to control your smart home devices from a handy screen when you connect your phone.
The environment mode for Android phones is similar to what you get on Nest Home and other Google-driven smart screens. When you connect your phone, you have access to two screens.
The first is a lock screen option that, like smart screens, shows you time in large numbers or a slideshow of Google Photos. At the bottom of your screen you will see notifications and a quick shortcut to open Google Assistant. Tapping the quick action key takes you to the second screen.
Here you will find the classic Google Assistant map interface with calendar notifications and weather information. You can also operate smart home devices that are connected to Assistant, all from one convenient location.
OnePlus says the feature is rolled out to users step by step and it can take up to a week to appear. If this is the case, you will see a prompt to activate Ambient mode the next time you connect your phone.
If you wish, you can also enable the setting manually (if you have one) by opening the Google App and go to More> Settings> Google Assistant> Select the Assistant tab> then select Phone under the Devices category.
You must have at least a OnePlus 3 phone or newer and use Android Oreo to get the feature.
