Last December, Google killed Google Glass Explorer Edition without mercy with a final software update, making the Glass Enterprise Edition 2 the only remaining AR wearable by Google.
Now Google makes it easier for business customers and developers to purchase a few of their smartglasses by enabling them to purchase the device directly from hardware stores.
"Glass Enterprise Edition 2 has people working in logistics, production, field services and a variety of other industries "Helped them to do their work more efficiently by getting hands-free access to the information and tools they need to do their job," said Jay Kothari, Glass project leader, in a blog post. "Since Glass Enterprise Edition 2 was launched last May, we have seen strong demand from developers and companies interested in building new, useful enterprise solutions for Glass."
Previously, the only way for business customers to get their hands on Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 would be working with one of Google's solution providers, including Augmedix (one of the 25 best AR investments of 2019), Ubimax and Upskill ( one of the best 2019 investments). Glass solution providers package Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 with software, system integration and implementation services.
"Companies that have implemented Glass with experiences from our network of solution providers have seen faster production times, improved quality and lower costs," Kothari said.
Now anyone with a large credit card or PayPal account can purchase the Glass Enterprise Edition 2 development kit (including the Glass pod and titanium band) from Mobile Advance. They can also buy the pod themselves (with the required titanium band sold separately) via CDW and SHI.
