Today at Google’s annual developer event, I / O 2021, we got a glimpse of some of the exciting new features coming to Google Maps. The company has detailed several updates that allow you to travel safer, eco-friendly routes and even know how busy it is before you go.
Obviously, getting you to your destination quickly and efficiently is important. However, it is arguably more important to get to that destination safely. That is why the latest Google Map changes identify road areas that are not as safe or often have spots where drivers put on the brakes. Not to mention road, traffic and weather conditions.
We also get more information and images of bike paths and crosswalks, both of which are super important worldwide, not to mention crucial for safety reasons.
Google then went on to “Area crowds”, which will tell you how busy certain areas are, such as a park or neighborhood. We’ve seen this in specific locations such as restaurants and gyms in Google Maps, but now the feature is expanding to more areas to help users. With a global pandemic still a problem, knowing when to go somewhere or not is a great idea.
Plus, Google makes changes to Maps based on your preferences and routines, not to mention the time of day. For example, the card won’t fill as many breakfast restaurants as it is 8pm and dinner. These features will be available in the coming months.
