Google Pixel 4a leaked spec sheet and new rumors «Android :: Gadget Hacks

Last year, many were caught off guard when Google released a midrange Pixel device. Priced under $ 500, the Pixel 3a and 3a XL were fantastic buys as they took most of the camera technology people loved in the Pixel 3 to budget devices. Rumors indicate that Google plans to continue this series.

The Pixel 4a seems to be a worthy upgrade for Pixel 3a owners looking for more power and a better camera for a price tag of less than $ 500. One thing to note is that Google may be the XL- version of this phone drops. This would cut production costs and help maintain the separation between the two Pixel lineups, but it might alienate those who prefer larger screens.

Standout Features

The Google Pixel 4a is the first Pixel device to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 series chipset, a SoC that offers much of the power and efficiency of the flagship 800 series chipset at an affordable price tag . It will also come with a new punch-hole display, giving it a flagship look while cutting the top and bottom edges. It will keep the headphone jack.

Key Dates

The Google Pixel 4a is expected to be announced during Google I / O 2020, which will take place May 12-14, 2020. According to new reports, Google will once again manufacture the Google Pixel 4a. phone in Vietnam, thanks in part to the coronavirus outbreak in China. Production will start in April, indicating a May release, likely on the same day as the announcement.

  • Release Date: May 12, 2020
  • Pre-Order Date: N / A
  • Announcement Date: May 12, 2020

Storage Capacity

According to @Onleaks and 91mobiles, the Pixel 4a comes with 64 GB of storage. 9to5Google says their sources have confirmed that there is in fact a 128 GB version as well. This is the same amount as its predecessor. However, this year the storage will be UFS 2.1 instead of eMMC for faster read and write speeds. We don't expect support for expandable storage as Google never included it in the Pixel range.

  • Storage available: 64 GB, 128 GB
  • Expandable storage: no
  • Standard: UFS 2.1

Price for everything

With the clear elimination of the XL version of the phone, we fully expect prices to be below $ 500. Evan Blass leaked a billboard with a starting price of $ 399, making it well within the budget price, something that should help sales in this economic climate.

Body

Like its predecessor, the Pixel 4a must have a shell made entirely of polycarbonate plastic. Due to the cheaper material, the costs remain low. Rumor has it that it will come in three colors: Clearly White, Just Black and Barely Blue.

  • Frame: polycarbonate
  • Finish: plain black, barely blue, clear white

Basics

With its smaller bezels, the Pixel 4a can enlarge the screen while reducing the phone's height and width. It is slightly thicker at 0.32 inches, which we believe is an indication of a larger battery.

Last year, Google announced the Pixel line-up that extends support to all four major US wireless providers. We expect the same support to continue with the Pixel 4a along with US Cellular and Google Fi. We currently don't know if AT&T will sell it directly this year.

Software [19659005] As you would expect, the Pixel 4a will run the latest version of Android 10. It also gets three years of security patches and three years of full OS updates. It will also be one of the first phones to get Android 11 when it comes out later this year.

Skin

The Pixel 4a technically has no skin. However, this is not exactly the Android Open Source Project. Thanks to Google's exclusive Pixel features, the Pixel devices use more Pixel skin than pure Android, although most of us still consider it Android. Expect features like the Recorder app, Call Screen, Now Playing and other distinctive Google features.

  • Version: stock Android (Pixel version)

Display

Gone are the relatively large edges of the Pixel 3a, replaced by a perforated screen housing the front camera. This narrows the top edge, allowing the screen size to increase to 5.8 inches while decreasing the length and width of the phone. The hole is in the top left corner.

The resolution is 2340 x 1080, a slightly higher aspect ratio than its predecessor. It doesn't share the Pixel 4's 90Hz refresh rate, instead opting for 60Hz. There are no Soli radar sensors for Motion Sense or sensors to enable Face Unlock.

  • Screen Size: 5.81 inches

Performance

According to XDA the Pixel 4a the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730. This is not only the first Pixel device t that this S uses oC, but one of the few American smartphones. This is an 8 nanometer process with a clock speed of 2.2 GHz on the gold cores.

The Hexagon 688 DSP is more powerful than the one in the Snapdragon 845, which means that AI improvement will be fast. GeekBench scores are higher than the Snapdragon 845 in single-core but much lower in multi-core applications, meaning it will excel in gaming, but not video editing.

Finally, there are rumors that Google will increase the RAM to 6 GB. Memory: 6 GB LPDDR4X

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 730
  • Chip Size: 8 nanometers
  • CPU Frequency: 2.2 GHz (2x Kyro 470 Gold) + 1.8 GHz (6x Kyro 470 silver)
  • CPU cores: 8 cores (2 gold, 6 silver)
  • GPU: Adreno 618
  • GPU frequency: 700
  • Battery

The Pixel 4a comes with a 3,080 mAh battery. This is a relatively small number, but given the energy-efficient SoC and the reasonable 1080p screen, it should still equate to good battery life. And if you inevitably run out, it should support both Quick Charge 4+ and USB Power Delivery with the ability to charge up to 18W. Wireless charging support is unlikely.

    • Battery: rechargeable lithium ion [19659009] Capacity: 3,080 mAh
    • Cable charging: yes, Quick Charge 4 +, USB PD (18 W)
    • Wireless charging : no
    • Reverse wireless charging: no

    Front camera

Rumor has it that the front camera is an 8 MP sensor with a pixel size of 1, 22 µm and an f / 2.0 aperture, the same as in the Pixel 3a. The main difference is the location of the camera, which is now housed in the monitor instead of the top edge. For video, you can record up to 1080p at 30fps.

    • Resolution: 8 MP
    • Aperture: ƒ / 2.0
    • Pixel Size: 1.22 µm [19659009] Zoom: yes, 2x digital
    • Flash: yes, screen flash
    • Image stabilization: Unknown
    • RAW Support: yes
    • Object Detection: Unknown
    • Formats: JPEG, RAW

    Reversing camera

The Pixel 4a comes with the same primary sensor as the 3a and 4, the Sony IMX363. This camera is 12.2 MP with a pixel size of 1.4 µm and an aperture of f / 1.8. Because it uses the same component as the Pixel 4, the difference is minimal, with the picture quality of the Pixel 4a slightly worse due to the lack of a neural core and the less powerful image signal processor in the Snapdragon 730 SoC. [19659002] The camera is optically and electronically stabilized, just like the Pixel 4. It gets most of the same camera features as the Pixel 4, including the improved Night Sight 2.0, Top Shot, HDR + and Super Res Zoom.

According to @Onleaks, there will be other sensors in the camera module (which are similar in design to the Pixel 4) to help with photography and videography, although none were specified. Our best bet is a zoomable microphone and possibly a ToF sensor for better portrait shots.

    • RAW support: yes
    • Lens Hood: sapphire crystal
    • Object Detection: Unknown
    • Formats: JPEG, RAW 19659034] The Pixel 4a should once again hit the charts on DxOMark with its video score despite the weaker SoC than many of the other contenders. Video recording should be limited to 4K at 30fps, the same as the Pixel 4, both because of the SoC and because of the limited internal storage.

      • Resolution: 720p, 1080p and 4K
      • Maximum frame rate: 60 fps at 1080p and 30 fps at 4K

Audio [19659005] Again, the Pixel 4a will have a headphone jack, making it an attractive offering for both wired earbud enthusiasts like the Pixel lineup. Stereo speakers should also return, although not facing forward like the Pixel 3.

    • 3.5mm headphone jack: yes
    • Stereo speakers: yes, one front and one under fire
    • Microphones: 2
    • Max. Loudspeaker volume: Unknown
