Having trouble tracking your stimulus check with Get My Payment? 6 problems and how to solve them

Enter your address in capital letters

Entering your address in a way that the Get My Payment service understands was a problem with the first check and will stay with the second. Some readers reported that on the first check, completing the “Get My Payment” fields worked with all capital letters. The IRS said you should enter your address using this format: 123 Main St NW # 7 and not enter the city, state, or town on the address line.

You may have mistyped your information; try again

The simplest reason the IRS may not be able to match you with your stimulus payment status may have to do with your keyboard. If you accidentally entered a typo, wrong address, or a name other than the government has under your data, the tool may not be able to find you. This one is easy enough to fix – so try again before you assume the worst.

You checked at the wrong time of the day

The IRS only updates the information once a day, at night, so if you happen to find it time before the update comes, you may be out of luck. You can always try again later in the day or keep checking at the same time every day.

You are temporarily unable to access the Get My Payment tool

If you see a cryptic message that only says ‘Please try again later’ you may be banned from the tool. According to the IRS, “If the information you enter doesn’t match our records multiple times, you will be locked out of Get My Payment for 24 hours for security reasons. You do not need to contact the IRS.”
