Assassin 3 is here, and developer IO Interactive has implemented a way to track your progress from the first two games (Hitman and Hitman 2) in the new experience. You can play in the entire first two submissions Assassin 3, allowing you to enjoy the Hitman: World of Assassination series in one package. Transferring your progress from the previous items to the new game will make all of your XP and unlocks available in the new game, but it’s not as easy as you might expect.
In fact, it is quite complicated. In this guide, we’ll show you how to import your progress and content from Hitman 1 and 2 in Assassin 3.
How to get Hitman 1
and 2 in Hitman 3
Before you deal with the progress transfer, make sure you have the first two games ready to play Assassin 3. You can buy the first two items from the store in Assassin 3, or if you already have them on the same account, you can add them to the new game. To do this, you must first create a Hitman 2 and the Hitman 1 Legacy Pack DLC on the same account as Assassin 3.
In terms of the first Hitman game, the only way to access it inside Assassin 3 is through the Legacy Pack DLC. This is only available to players who have Hitman GOTY Edition (or upgraded it). You must then start with Hitman 2 to Hitman 1 Legacy Pack DLC. After you do this, Assassin 3 will detect that you own it Legacy Pack DLC and gives you access to Hitman 1 content at no extra cost (it’s confusing – we know).
As long as you own all three games on the same account (including the GOTY edition from Hitman 1), you can play them indoors Assassin 3. For players who have upgraded from the last generation to the current generation (PS4 to PS5 and Xbox One to Xbox Series X | S), you will need to Hitman 2 Access Pass DLC within Assassin 3 to access the previous games. As IO Interactive has stated, players do not need to repurchase access to the previous games as long as they are playing on the same account within the same ecosystem (e.g. Hitman 2 on PS4 and play Assassin 3 on Xbox Series X | S you are out of luck if you want to transfer progress).
Basically, when you boot Assassin 3, the game will detect if you own Hitman 2 and the Hitman 1 Legacy Pack DLC and gives you access to those levels. It will ask you to download the content if you don’t already have it installed. If you have trouble with it Hitman 1 content, jump in Hitman 2 and make sure you have the Legacy Pack DLC for the first game. If not, you will need to buy it (or upgrade to it GOTY edition).
How to transfer progression from Hitman 1 and 2 to Hitman 3
Now that you’ve installed the content on your system, you’ll want to import your progress data from the first two games into Assassin 3. To do this, you need to create an account on the official IO Interactive website. Once you do this, log out of the IO account in a browser and go back to the login page. Here you have the option to log in with different platforms, including Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Google Stadia, Steam or Xbox.
Choose the one you want to link, and you will be redirected to login through that platform. After confirming this, you will be asked to link as shown above. Press Link and then you have to log in to your IO account again. Once you do that, it will be paired. You can link to multiple platforms.
If you did all that before logging in Assassin 3 for the first time, the game will automatically ask you to log in to your IO account and walk you through the process of progress data transfer via the system’s web browser.
Alternatively, you can visit the progress data transfer website here. It is the same as what is displayed in the web browser on your console. If you are having trouble accessing from the browser on your console, we recommend that you simply visit the website on a PC. Many players have reported server problems due to high traffic and other issues preventing you from signing in so best done from a PC.
Follow the directions for the transfer process through the website on your console’s PC or browser and you will see all Hitman games that you have transferred under your Registered products on your IO account. The steps are as follows:
- Select source account
- Export progress
- Watch the progress
- Select target account
- Check and confirm
All these steps are visible on the left side of the screen, so follow these steps to make sure you are on the right track. Note that the transfer of progress data is a one-time process and the progress cannot be transferred again from the source account.
This is what transfers from previous entries to Assassin 3:
- Player Profile
- XP rank
- Location control levels
- Location control is unlocked
- Challenge progress
- Challenge is unlocked
- Elusive target takes / unlocks
Here’s a list of progressions that don’t carry over:
- Save game files
- Progress on escalation contracts or mission stories
- Rewards unlocked through the Hitman 1 GOTY Escalations
- ICA electrocution telephone
The progress transfer process has not applied to Nintendo Switch since then Assassin 3 is the only game in the series on that platform. Likewise, progress on Google Stadia is separate from progress on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Achievements and trophies
Assassin 3 contains achievements / trophies related to achievements in Hitman 1 and 2. Any achievement / trophy unlocked Hitman 1 and / or 2 is automatically unlocked in Assassin 3 if you have transferred your progression. As IO explains, “If you have met the legacy trophies / achievements requirements after you transfer your progress, they will be automatically unlocked when you start Assassin 3 For the first time.”
