After hours of debates, the US House of Representatives has voted in favor impeach President Donald Trump with a vote of 232-197. The vote started earlier than initially expected today, after Vice President Mike Pence sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday evening saying he would not endorse the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office. The call to impeach the president focuses on the role Trump played in instigating it attack on Capitol Hill last week, which left five dead.

The Capitol siege came on Jan. 6 after Trump spoke to followers in Washington, DC, at a rally in support of the false claim that Trump’s 2020 election had been stolen. A joint session of Congress confirmed President-elect Joe Biden as president, a formality chaired and announced by Pence. After the events of the day, Trump’s Twitter account and other social media accounts, has been permanently suspended. YouTube has also discontinued Trump’s ability to upload new video for at least a week.

Trump’s term ends in seven days, with Biden takes office on January 20but some lawmakers on both sides are adamant to now remove Trump from office, warning that he poses a threat to America.

“He is a clear and present danger to the nation we all love,” Pelosi said on Wednesday during the impeachment debate.

Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, minority leader in the Senate, both appealed to Pence last week to invoke the 25th Amendment. On Monday, 217 House co-sponsors released an article about impeachment. Pence’s response to the House’s request to invoke the 25th Amendment, in which he said he had no intention of doing so, left it to Pelosi to put the impeachment article to the vote.
