If you are suspicious of chatting with Alexa late at night because her bleak answers can wake the entire house, you can engage an institution that lowers Alexa's voice to a whisper.
As soon as you switch on Alexa & Whisper Mode, Alexa will whisper you if you first whisper to her.
It is a handy trick and one that apparently requires a fair amount of research and technical expertise to perform. The bottom line, however, is that Whisper Mode provides an effective way to chat with Alexa on the down-low.
It is worth noting that Whisper Mode only works on Echo speakers, such as the Echo and Echo Dot. If you try to whisper Alexa with for example the Alexa app for Android or iOS, Alexa will call you back with your normal voice.
How to switch Alexa Whisper mode
- Open the mobile Alexa app on your iOS or Android device.
- Tap the menu button and then tap Settings > Voice responses .
- Enable the setting Whisper mode . [1
Now there's something unpleasant about Alexa & Whisper mode: while the setting applies to all Echo speakers that are signed in to your Amazon account, you must essentially set it up for each speaker before Alexa whisper automatically begins to recognize.
That's because the first time you whisper to a particular Echo speaker, Alexa says in her normal voice: "I think you've just whispered to me, & then she continues to explain what Whis is by mode before she finally lowers her voice.
Once that has happened, however, Alexa should respond correctly to your whisper on the first attempt, and start talking normally again if you speak to her in a normal voice.
