Block a Phone Number, Email Address or Contact Person
The process of blocking someone can be done in four different apps with each app following the same steps. You don't have to go through the process multiple times to block the same number or email address from all apps. Block someone in one app and they will be blocked in the four apps below.
- Phone : Find the phone number or contact you want to block on the Recent tab, then tap the "i" button next to the option. Select Block this caller at the bottom of the screen and confirm.
- FaceTime : Tap the "i" next to the contact, phone number, or email address you want to block. Scroll to the bottom of the page, tap Block this caller and confirm your choice.
- Message : Open the conversation and tap the contact at the top of the screen. Then select the "i", then tap the name, phone number, or email address. At the bottom of the page is a button Block this caller ; tap it and confirm.
- Mail : Open the message with the person you want to block, tap the email address you want to block, then select Block this contact .
If you're not using Apple's Mail app, but Gmail or Outlook, blocking anyone in Mail won't affect the appearance of their messages in your inbox.
What happens when you block someone?
When someone is blocked in FaceTime, Messages or the Phone app, incoming calls go straight to voicemail. They may even leave you a message that is quietly displayed in the Voicemail section of the Phone app, but hidden in a Blocked Messages section.
Messages or FaceTime calls are not showing on your Apple devices, and the person you blocked does not receive a warning or is any wiser. They get the impression that you ignore them.
When you block someone in the Mail app, their messages go to the trash for that respective email account.
View your block list or unblock someone
