You cannot call yourself an Android pro without being aware of the recovery or download mode. These menus are crucial to perform more advanced tasks on your phone, including software updates for sideloading and device disinfection. But this year, Samsung has changed the button combinations that take you there.
You usually go to these modes with a combination of hardware buttons that are held down on shutdown or restart. However, due to the lack of a Bixby button, it is not that clear on the Note 10+. It took me some time to figure it out and I wasn't the only one – I even asked around at the Unpacked NYC event and nobody seemed to know it. But now that I know, here is how to achieve this without the headache.
Start up in recovery mode
Recovery mode is a menu that every Android phone can access. With a button combination or ADB you can access this mode to help solve problems. For your Galaxy Note 1
To start the recovery mode, you must completely close the phone. If you do not know how to do this, consult our guide (and video) on how to achieve this.
Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button after turning the camera off. at the same time. Continue to hold these buttons down even after it vibrates and "Samsung Galaxy Note 10+" appears on the screen. It will then start in recovery mode. Release the two hardware buttons at this point.
Method 2: With ADB commands The proven method for recovery mode for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ (or another Android phone) is using ADB commands. To execute ADB commands, you need a computer and a USB cable.
If you have never used ADB commands, you must establish an ADB connection between your telephone and computer. View our our comprehensive guide . After you have been redirected to the correct folder and have a verified connection between your phone and computer, return to this article.
Enter the following command in the command prompt or terminal window. Please note that if you use macOS or Linux, you must place a "./" at the beginning of the command.
adb reboot recovery
Once you enter this command and press "Enter", the phone will restart in recovery mode.
Start up in download mode
Download mode is a special mode on Samsung devices that allows you to update with official software and install packages manually using a tool such as Odin. For example, when the beta version of Android 9 Pie leaked for the Galaxy S9 in 2018, it was through this mode that you could install it.
To start the download mode, there are two ways to achieve this.
Enter recovery mode with one of the previously described methods. Use the volume button there to navigate to "Restart to bootloader" and press the on / off button. The phone will restart, but this time you will go to the download mode.
Method 2: With ADB Enter the following commands with an ADB connection (see above) at the command prompt on your computer:
adb reboot bootloader
adb reboot bootloader
If you use macOS or Linux, place "./" at the beginning of the command. The phone will restart and this time will restart in download mode.
