One of the best things about Android is being able to arrange everything you want, from your background to the standard apps you choose for each promotion used. If you change the default SMS app from the app that came with your device, your messaging experience can change dramatically. Many texting apps have many themes & # 39; s to choose from and also offer other features that you can't find anywhere else.
Not to say that the standard texting app that comes with your phone is terrible, but maybe you wanted to try something else from curiosity to see what's there? The Play Store is flooded with a wide range of texting apps, but where you land depends entirely on what you are looking for. You may have to spend some time doing a bit of trial and error while finding one that suits you.
: find your new texting app
First you have to start searching the Play Store for some ideal candidates to get you started. Try searching for the term " sms app" for starters, as it will spit a lot of relevant and popular sms apps. Google Messages, Handcent, Textra and chomp SMS are four of the most popular SMS apps that are available if you need a recommendation.
You may want to download quite a few different apps to test, but for the sake of simplicity we will keep the number low for the time being. Download a handful of texting apps that look interesting to you (maybe 2 or 3), after which you can close the Play Store and go to the next step below. You can always repeat the process and test more later.
Step 2: Change your default SMS app
There are two ways to replace your default SMS app. Both methods work exactly the same, so it all depends on what you want to do at that moment – there is always more than one way to achieve the same end goal when it comes to everything that has to do with Android.
In all modern versions of Android, the SMS app may ask you to set this as the default when you first open it. A list of all installed SMS apps appears, so that you can then select the one that is currently requesting access. Choose the correct SMS app and then tap "Set as default" to confirm your choice. The system now uses that app as standard for all your texting needs. Ready!
Now it will send you to the main screen of that texting app where you can use it right away. There is no limit to how often you can do this, so opening another app for the first time results in the same process. You can also add the icon to your home screen to replace the old texting app if you want. Try it a bit and then view another texting app to see what might work best for you.
With most devices, you can now search for a specific setting while browsing the system settings menu. This is especially useful if you do not know where to look or if you want direct access to something with little effort. Tap the search box or icon at the top of the settings screen, type "standard apps" or just "standard", and then tap the item that matches what you're looking for.
The "Standard apps" main page is displayed where you can see all the apps that use your phone as standard for every promotion. Tap the & # 39; SMS app & # 39; to display a list of installed SMS apps. Tap the app you want to use and confirm the comment that appears by pressing & # 39; OK & # 39; when you switch between apps.
Once you do that, your new texting app is set up and you are ready to go! The system now uses that app as standard for all your texting needs. From this point you can fully dive into the app and see what it has to offer. You can also add the icon to your home screen to replace the old texting app if you want. Try it a bit and then view another texting app to see what might work best for you.
