If you’ve ever created a profile in Apple Health on your iPhone, the app collects data on how many steps you take each day. If you want to clear this record of your physical activity, you can easily clear it in the Health app. Here’s how.
First, open the Apple Health app. If you can’t find it, swipe down the center of your iPhone screen with one finger and type ̵
In the Health app, scroll down until you see Steps and tap it. (Depending on how many other health metrics you’re using, the ‘Steps’ section may be on different parts of the screen.)
In the ‘Steps’ screen, scroll all the way to the bottom and tap ‘View all data’.
On the “All Recorded Data” screen, tap “Edit” in the top right corner of the screen.
The screen changes to an edit screen where you can delete data from individual days using the red circles next to each item. To delete all recorded step data, tap “Delete All”.
Warning: After you delete your step data, you cannot get it back.
After you confirm the deletion, Health will erase all of your step data. However, this does not prevent Health from collecting data on future steps. To do this, we’ll need to visit Settings in the section below.
How to Disable Apple Health Activity Tracking on iPhone
If you just cleared your step data and want to prevent the Health app from collecting activity data in the future, you can easily turn it off in Settings. First, open the Settings app.
In Settings, tap on ‘Privacy’.
In Privacy, scroll down and select Exercise & Fitness.
In Exercise & Fitness, tap the switch next to Health to turn it off. This will prevent the Health app from receiving future activity data from your iPhone’s sensors.
Alternatively, you can turn off “Fitness Tracking” completely at the top of the screen, but doing this will also prevent other apps from using activity data. If that’s okay with you, just set ‘Fitness Tracking’ to ‘Off’.
After that, exit Settings and you’re done. From now on, Health will no longer know how many steps you take each day. Stay healthy there!
