There are people among us who are loyal to the brand, and people among us who prefer to mix and match. You may enjoy the clear sound of Apple AirPods, but when it comes to computers, Windows PCs are your preferred choice over MacBooks. That is the beauty of competition between brands; there are many companies that make sweet things, and it is easy to choose what works best for you.
What happens if you want to connect those AirPods to your PC? Are they compatible with each other? What do you have to do to make a link between these opposing brands? Fortunately we have all the answers.
Make sure your equipment is compatible
The short answer? Yes, you can connect Apple AirPods to a Windows PC, at least in most cases. Before continuing with the AirPods, you must ensure that your PC has Bluetooth capabilities. There is good news and bad news here. The good news is that Bluetooth is a widely used technology nowadays and it is fairly easy to determine whether your computer has it or not. The bad news is, if the PC doesn't, then this is the end of the line.
Anyway, to check if your PC has Bluetooth, right-click on the Windows Start button and then search for Device Manager. If there is a Bluetooth entry in the device list, congratulations! You have Bluetooth and can continue with the rest of this process. If that is not the case, you probably do not have Bluetooth functionality.
If it appears that you have not built in Bluetooth functionality on your PC, there are a few alternatives. A Bluetooth adapter would be the most cost-effective option. However, there are other ways to bring better audio to your computer. There are a number of speakers optimized for computer use that are intended to bring a larger sound to your PC. Or you can opt for a different headset, perhaps a wired option that bypasses the need for Bluetooth.
What have we now set those AirPods to?
Setting up your PC
Right-click on that Windows start button again to start the connection process. Click on Settings, followed by Devices. This will take you to the "Bluetooth & other devices" screen.
Click the "Add Bluetooth or other device" button and then choose the type of device that you want to add. Hint: it is a Bluetooth device. After choosing, the PC will open a list of compatible devices that you can connect to in your area.

Connecting the AirPods
Now that your PC is ready to connect, take your AirPods. Open the pods charging cassette cover, but leave the pods in place. Press and hold the Setup button on the back of the case until the status light on the case turns white.
From here, the AirPods should appear in the list of Bluetooth devices. Select them, connect them and keep listening to that Spotify playlist or YouTube video with the comfort and convenience of your Apple AirPods.
