If you are using Windows 10 and you no longer need an application, you may want to remove it. There are several ways to do this depending on the type of app it is. Here’s how to uninstall a program in Windows.
Uninstall an application with the Start menu
If an application was installed using the Microsoft Store, you can quickly remove it from the Start menu. To do this, open the “Start”
If it is the first time that you have uninstalled a program in this way, you will be notified with a small pop-up window. Click on “Delete” again. The app will be silently removed without you having to take any further action. If you change your mind, you can download and reinstall the program later from the Microsoft Store.
If you right-click on an app that was not installed from the Microsoft Store and select “Remove”, the “Programs and Features” window opens. Find the program in the list, select it and click the “Remove” button.
If an uninstall wizard window appears, follow the steps until the program is uninstalled. Then you are free to close the “Programs and Features” window.
Remove an application using Settings
Perhaps the most comprehensive way to remove an application on Windows 10 is to use Settings. That’s because you can see a list of every installed program on the system and easily select which one to remove.
To do this, open “Settings” by clicking the “Start” menu and selecting the gear icon. (Or you can press Windows + I on your keyboard.)
In ‘Settings’, click on ‘Apps’.
After that, you will see a list of all apps installed on your system. This includes apps installed through the Microsoft Store as well as apps installed through other methods.
Find the item for the program you want to remove and select it. Then click on “Delete”.
If the app is installed from the Microsoft Store, it will be removed immediately without any additional steps.
If it’s an app installed in a different way, you may see an additional popup window. If so, click “Remove” again. After that, the uninstall wizard window will open. Follow the steps of the wizard and the app will be completely removed.
Remove an application using the control panel
You can also remove non-Microsoft Store applications from the old Windows Control Panel. To do this, open the “Start” menu and type “control” and then click the “Control Panel” icon.

Under ‘Programs’, click ‘Uninstall a program’.
In the Programs and Features window that appears, you will see a long list of installed applications that you can sort by name, publisher, installation date, size, and version number by clicking the column titles.
This list does not include apps installed from the Microsoft Store. To remove it, use the “Settings” window or right-click on it and select “Remove” from the “Start” menu.
Find the program you want to remove and click the item to select it. Then click on the “Delete” button.
An uninstall wizard for the program will start. Continue through the steps until you have completed the removal process. Since Microsoft considers the Control Panel to be an outdated interface, it’s a good idea to practice uninstalling programs using the other methods above as well. Good luck!
