How to disable Bixby on Samsung Galaxy S20 (and earlier Galaxy phones)

A feature that you find on many recent Samsung Galaxy phones is Bixby, the internal AI assistant. Bixby isn't everyone's cup of tea though, so it can be hard to really enjoy your new Galaxy if you're not a fan of it. Luckily for you, after just following a few quick steps, you can completely disable Bixby on your Samsung Galaxy phone.

The Bixby button is located directly below the volume keys on the right side of the Samsung Galaxy S20 and on the left of the Note 10 phones. It is also the power button for those phones. Bixby is activated by a long press on that button, but you may just want it to be your power button. Here's how to completely disable Bixby on that button.

  3. You should see the settings, including the options " Keep pressed ". There is a Wake Bixby setting that is enabled by default, but you can tap the Power off menu selection instead to disable Bixby.

That's all! Now you can press the side button to your heart's content and Bixby will not activate. Feels good, doesn't it?

Disable (sort of) Bixby button on older Galaxy phones

If you own a Galaxy phone older than the S20 or Note 10 with Bixby installed, here's how to double-press Bixby on those handsets. It doesn't completely disable Bixby, but it's better than nothing. (Yes, Samsung did allow users to completely disable Bixby on those phones at some point, but a software update has since eliminated that feature.)

  1. Tap the Settings icon
  2. Scroll down and tap the Advanced Features selection
  3. Tap the Bixby Key option
  4. Finally tap the Double Press to open the Bixby selection

Okay, you don't want a Bixby button to open Bixby, but that's a waste of a good button, right? Good news! A number of developers have created apps that allow you to remap the Bixby button to another app, such as Google Assistant. Follow this guide to learn how to remap the Bixby button.
