Some streaming services have existed for years without the option to download shows and movies for offline viewing, but that functionality is available on Day 1 on Disney +, which is now available to everyone in the United States. There are more than 600 titles to dive in, enough to mix hundreds of hours of The Simpsons without even viewing a fifth of what is available.

Download movies and shows on Disney +
: Select your download quality
Let's talk about the file sizes for us. If you want storage space on your iPhone or Android smartphone, Disney + has a variable quality feature that allows you to sacrifice visual loyalty for a smaller digital footprint. Open the Disney + app on your smartphone (iOS, Android) and click on your profile icon at the bottom right. From there, go to App Settings> Download Quality . You see options for standard, medium and high, the latter probably does not offer a higher resolution than 1080p.
Step 2: Download your content
Because you can view any Disney + title offline, no guesswork or filter is required to find downloadable content. The most difficult part of this specific task is figuring out what you want to view. Once you've discovered that, all you have to do is tap the download button, which is at the far right of the Play button under the title logo. For shows you can also find a separate download button next to each episode if you don't want the entire season.
Disney takes care of the magic from there. It's a relatively fast download on Wi-Fi, especially at the lower grades, so you can probably get dozens of movies in those few hours before your flight if you forget to do it the night before.
Step 3: View your downloaded movies and shows
All you have to do now is enjoy! A simple way to find your downloads is by pressing the download icon, which is always visible in the bottom right of the Disney + app. All your content is listed here, sorted by order of download. Tap the play button on the thumbnail of whatever you want to view and you're done. Episodes are displayed a little differently: they are nested under a single label and if you tap on it, all episodes that you have downloaded for that show are listed, grouped by season. You can also find these titles by regularly searching and browsing. You know that something is available for offline viewing when you see a smartphone icon where the download button is usually located.
How much space do I need?
The amount of storage space that each title eats is mainly based on the length of the video and resolution, and with other variables that play in the comparison – the largest is your quality setting – this number can vary enormously.
We have downloaded three films of the same length and resolution – a few of the Star Wars films, which clock at just over two hours – to see how each of the options affects file size. The Empire Strikes Back at standard quality was 0.92 GB for a duration of 2 hours and 7 minutes, while A new heap on medium needed 1.4 GB for 2 hours and 4 minutes. That is a modest leap compared to high quality Return of the Jedi which needed 5.5 GB for 2 hours and 14 minutes. For shows, a delivery of 39 minutes from The Mandalorian on high quality takes 1.5 GB, but only 270 MB on standard and 424 MB on medium. Finally, after a duration of 3 hours, 1 minute, The Avengers: End Game needs no less than 7.1 GB.
Using the above data you can make a rough estimate of how much space you need to store everything you want. You can mix and match by adjusting your quality setting before you start the download. It would now also be an excellent time to set whether you need a Wi-Fi connection to download content, an option that should certainly be considered with limited data. Disney + makes standard downloads with only Wi-Fi possible.
What is available?
As explained above, everything in the Disney + catalog can be downloaded for offline use. Whether it's an entire season of Darkwing Duck or any movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if it's on Disney +, you can download it.
Unlike some other services, Disney + is quite loose for limitations. To start, you can download a single title on up to 10 different devices at the same time and you can download them all as often as you want. The only thing Disney requires is that you connect to Disney + every 30 days.
How do I delete titles?
Ultimately, you want to make room for something new. Whether you want to delete a single title or a group in one go, Disney + makes the task pleasantly simple.
Step 1: Delete a single title
It only takes a few seconds to remove something from Disney +. First, find your content by going to the Downloads section, which you can access by tapping the second icon on the right side of the app's navigation bar. Find the movie you want to delete and click on the smartphone icon to the right of the title. Select Delete Download and it escorts itself directly from your smartphone's storage.
Step 2: Delete all titles
If you want to delete more than one at the same time, Disney + gives you two quick options to do this. In the same Downloads section you will see an Edit button in the upper right corner. Click on it and you will see a number of squares next to the titles you have. Tap a square to mark it for deletion. You can mark all your downloads at once with the Select All button at the top where the Edit button was located. If you tap it again, the selection of those items will be canceled. After you've set the chopping block, tap the trash can icon at the top right of the Disney + app and they will go away.
You can also click on your profile icon at the bottom right and tap App settings> Delete all downloads to discard everything with one button.
