Heart rate sensors have been included in Samsung smartwatches since the Gear 2, which was released in 2014. Every modern Samsung Gear or Galaxy smartwatch has the ability to measure your heart rate. However, it is important to note that smartwatches are not medical instruments and should not be used for a diagnosis.

There are two ways you can measure your heart rate with a Samsung Galaxy Watch. You can check manually at any time or have the watch measure automatically during the day. During workouts, the watch also measures your heart rate more often.

There are three options on this screen:

  • Measure continuously: Continuously measures your heart rate.
  • Every 10 minutes while stationary: Measure your heart rate every 10 minutes when you are not exercising.
  • Manual measurement only: Will never measure your heart rate automatically.

Choose one of the options to continue. Note that continuous heart rate monitoring has a greater impact on battery life than the every 10 minutes option.

That is it! You can check your heart rate history by going to the Samsung Health app. The app shows your heart rate readings in a graph for the week.
