I am not convinced that mounting a Nest Mini on the wall is the most aesthetic way to display this speaker. The long, white cord will be hard to hide and the speaker is so small that it does not save much room to remove it from my kitchen counter. However, if you are inclined to place your smart speakers vertically, Google has made it easy to do with this second gene model.
Choose the right place
Maybe you already know exactly where you want to hang your Nest Mini. If not, choose a location near a power outlet and well within reach of your Wi-Fi network. Think of pets, housemates, children and everything else that can come into contact with the loudspeaker and the cord.
Measure and install the screw
Just like hanging a photo, it is a good idea to measure where you are going to put the screw in your wall. Try centering it on a wall or between other items for a tidy, symmetrical look.
Google recommends a # 8 Phillips head screw. If you screw in drywall and not in the wall post, you may want to use an anchor. Follow the instructions in the anchor package so that it is flush with the wall.
Use a screwdriver or drill to screw the screw into the wall or wall anchor and let it protrude at least 2 mm from the screw for the Nest Mini.
Hang it up
You are now ready to hang your Nest Mini on the wall. Use the screw slot on the back of the speaker to hang the speaker lightly on the screw head and carefully attach it in place. I thought it was easier to hang the speaker on my own and then re-attached the power cord.
Reversing the Controls of the Device
This final step is an important adjustment for touch controls. As soon as your Nest Mini hangs on the wall, the volume controls are opposite the normal horizontal placement.
You can turn the volume buttons so that the volume is still on the right and the volume is still on the left.
For example, Google explains the steps for reversing device controls on its site.
1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same WiFi network as Google Nest Mini.
2. Open the Google Home app.
3. On the Home tab, tap the Nest Mini device that you want to customize.
4. In the upper right corner of the device card, tap Settings .
5. Under "Invert device control", tap the check box or tap the slider to turn on.
Now that your Nest Mini is mounted on the wall, you can use it for everything you would do with your smart speaker somewhere else. From timers to music and all your questions about general knowledge, there are lots of things you can ask your Google Assistant to help you from the other room.
