When you first open Safari after updating to iOS 15, you will immediately notice its new look. The search bar is now at the bottom and the View menu has moved with it, next to the tabs button. For tabs, moving between the tabs is as easy as swiping left and right or selecting one in the new grid view, but you can get confused when it comes time to open a private window.
Apple has changed the way you open a private tab in its biggest update this year. In the past, all you had to do was go to the tab switcher to find “Private” as an option at the bottom left. Now if you tap the tab switcher icon in iOS 15, no such option will appear. The option still exists, just in a new location.
To find the “Private”
Like in iOS 14 and earlier, these tabs are stored in this space, so you can switch back to your regular tabs with the comfort of having private tabs waiting for you later.
Of course, you can always long press to get the job done.
For the uninitiated, you can long-press the Safari app icon on the home screen or in the app library and select “New Private Tab.” You can also long-press the tab switch icon in Safari to see the same option. Both give a new tab in the private window space instead of just opening one of your current private tabs. This all works just like in previous versions of iOS.
Note: Apple’s iOS 15 is currently in beta development. A public beta will be available in July, while the final release is not expected until fall 2021.
