The beloved money tree has been a staple of the Animal Crossing franchise for years, returning in New Horizons. If you've never played any of the previous titles, you may be surprised that money does indeed grow on trees. There is a bit of nuance to plant your own, but with a little luck you will have your own cash harvest in no time.
Search for the glowing spot
Unfortunately, you can't just bury a bag of Bells in the ground and expect it to grow. Instead, sand your island to a spot on the ground that glows. It appears on your island every day, although it can be difficult to spot. If you've looked everywhere and can't find it, stand behind buildings and zoom in on your character ̵
Better than that, this is the place to plant a money tree. Go to your inventory, draw the bubbles you want to use as your "seed" money and bury the bag in the glowing hole. Wait a few days for the tree to grow and you have a money tree with three Bell bags, each containing the amount of your initial investment. Once the money tree is harvested, it becomes a boring, old, ordinary tree again. Feel free to chop it down and make room for the next one.
There is one caveat when planting your money tree – burying over 10,000 bells does not guarantee a three-fold return. While some players have been successful in planting 20,000 Bells – a cool return of 60,000 Bells – the success rate for any investment drops above 10,000. That means it's best to play it safe. Otherwise you can lose a lot of money. We recommend simply planting 10,000 bells, waiting a few days for the money tree to grow, and harvesting your yield of 30,000 bells.
Move your money tree to a safe location
The glowing money spot appears on your island every day, but not always in an ideal location. It is often too close to other trees or objects to grow properly. The money tree usually needs at least one or two open spaces on all sides to bloom. To move your investment, just take out your shovel and dig it up. Then go to a new place, open your inventory and plant the sapling. There is no penalty for doing this, so move it as often as necessary until you find the best location.
