Gamestreaming has never been better. Not only can you watch your favorite Twitch streamer play, but you can even play along with the new tools that have been added to YouTube. And now, with a solid internet connection, you can stream your Xbox One games to your phone to enjoy console games on the go.
As with PC game streaming, this option is limited to your home network. The idea is that if you don't want to sit in front of the TV or prefer the convenience of a telephone, you can use this app. Although this app has costs, it is not a monthly subscription. For a one-off fee you can enjoy your Xbox anywhere in your house.
- Xbox One (original, Xbox One S or Xbox One X)
- iPhone with iOS 1
- 5 GHz WiFi network
The app that makes all of this possible is OneCast. OneCast is not free – for iOS users it costs $ 11.99. But for Android users, you can try the app with a free 14-day trial period.
Installing the OneCast app on iOS is easy, just go to the App Store via the link below and purchase the app. But if you use Android, OneCast is not in the Play Store, so you must check if your phone is set to allow sideloading. Once you are done, download the MOT via the link below and tap the message Download complete and press "Install" when prompted.
Step 2: Enable Game Streaming
Once installed, you must configure your Xbox to allow remote streaming. Switch on your Xbox and select the Xbox button to open the side menu. Navigate to the gear icon and choose & # 39; Settings & # 39 ;. Scroll down to & # 39; Preferences & # 39; and select & # 39; Xbox app connectivity & # 39 ;.
On this page, select the radio next to & # 39; Only for profiles that are registered on the Xbox & # 39 ;. Afterwards, check the box to "Allow game streaming to other devices."
You must be in the same network as your Xbox. Whether your Xbox is connected via Ethernet or wireless doesn't matter, your phone must be on the same network.
Open the app on your phone and after going through the first installation page & # 39; s press the Back button on the "Help" page to return to the main menu. Select the "Register" button here, after which the app will scan your network for Xbox One consoles. If there are multiple Xbox devices, each list will be displayed on your phone, so choose the Xbox One console that you want to connect to.
As soon as you choose the console (or if there is only one console), you will be prompted to log in to the Microsoft account corresponding to the Xbox Live Gamertag from which you want to stream. After you sign in, a toast message appears on your Xbox stating that streaming has started and the screen from your Xbox One should now stream to your phone.
If OneCast does not search for your Xbox in the automatic scan, you can search for it manually using the app. You need the IP address of the Xbox, so go back to your Xbox One and enter Settings again. Select & # 39; Network & # 39 ;, then & # 39; Network Settings & # 39; and finally & # 39; Advanced Settings & # 39 ;. Here you will find the IP address. Enter this in the text field on your phone and OneCast will scan for your Xbox One again.
While the newer Xbox One controller comes with Bluetooth connectivity, the introduction delay introduced by connecting your Xbox One controller to your phone is high. OneCast recommends that you leave the Xbox controller connected to the Xbox for minimal input instead. As long as your controller remains connected to the Xbox, you can use it with your phone as if it were connected. If you follow this route, we recommend that you purchase a phone holder for your Xbox controller to place the screen of your phone directly above your controller for the best experience.
Technically you can use a Bluetooth controller, but in our testing this did not always work. I tried a few controllers, including a Razer Naiju Mobile and a PS4 controller, and neither of them worked within the OneCast app (although both managed general phone navigation).
Neither the iPhone or Android app supports the use of the microphone for in-game chat and / or voice chat. OneCast plans to add that feature later.
Similar to other streaming services (such as AMD Link), you are limited to your home network and your Xbox should be enabled. Someone else cannot use your Xbox while you play on your phone and you cannot use this app outside of your home network. For the latter you have to wait for Project xCloud from Microsoft.
Finally, for the best performance, you want a very strong connection. A 5 GHz connection has more than sufficient bandwidth (provided that the internet service for which you pay is also high) for smooth streaming with minimal input. For best results, connect your Xbox via the Ethernet port. If possible, if your phone supports USB OTG, you can also connect your phone via Ethernet, although a 5 GHz WiFi connection is fine.
