Do you find yourself turning on the screen of your Windows 10 PC too often? It is possible to prevent the screen from turning off completely. You can select different preferences for when your PC is running on battery power and when it is also connected to a power source.
If you have a portable device, such as a laptop or tablet, you can decide how the screen works while it is on battery or connected. Desktops only have the option of plugging in. The screen timeout duration can range from two minutes to five hours.
First, click on the Start menu and select the gear icon to open the settings. (You can also open the window by pressing Windows + i.)
Then select “System” in the Settings window.
Select “Power & Sleep” in the sidebar.
If you are using a desktop, you will see a drop-down for ‘When connected’ under both ‘Screen’ and ‘Sleep’. If you’re using a laptop or tablet, you’ll see a second drop-down menu for ‘On battery power’.
Select a drop-down list under ‘Screen’ to control when the screen turns off.
Select “Never” from the menu to prevent Windows from turning off your display.
That is it! For best results, we recommend that you leave the screen on only when the power cord is plugged in. You run out of battery quickly if you do this on battery power. However, the choice is yours!
Note: If your PC is set to sleep automatically, the screen will also turn off when it goes to sleep. You can also control when your PC goes to sleep from this screen.
You can also prevent an iPhone or Android device from turning off the screen.
