How to See All the People Who Tapped on an iMessage « iOS & iPhone :: Gadget Hacks

Apple’s Tapback is a great way to respond to iMessages that you find funny, surprising, confusing and everything in between. However, in group chats, it can be difficult to keep track of who has responded with which Tapback; iOS often only shows how many people have responded, but excludes many of the names. Fortunately, there’s a way around this – it’s just kind of hidden.

There are six different possible Tapback responses to choose from — heart, thumbs up, thumbs down, HAHA, exclamation and question mark — and group sizes can get quite large, meaning a a lot of of people can respond with Tapbacks for a particular message. Presumably, Apple is trying to clean things up by condensing the Tapback report you see when you tap the last Tapback comment.

Normally, in a multi-reaction situation, you see one contact per Tapback, plus the number of other contacts that reacted in the same way. For example, if “John Smith”

; responded with an exclamation mark and “Michael Jones” and three others were laughing, you would see John’s contact photo, with a “1” and the “!” below, and Michael’s contact photo, with a “4” and “HAHA” below it.

Sure, it’s nice to see Michael laughing at a message, but what about the other three people who did?

How to see all contacts who have responded with a tapback

All you need to do is tap on the contact that represents the comment you want to see. When you do this, the row expands and displays all contacts that responded with the same Tapback. That goes for every contact, even if there is only one person who reacted that way. If you need to go back to the original Tapback menu, just tap the X on the right.

Look, I actually think this system makes sense. It would get a little too messy in large groups to preview every response when selecting a Tapback. That said, it would be nice if Apple made this a little clearer. Even his own article on the subject says, “To see who replied with a Tapback, tap it.”

Not very obvious, Apple.
