Instagram is a popular outlet for spontaneous texts thanks to its variety of crazy filters and options. These are also the types of conversations that you don̵
For sending self-destructing text messages, Instagram offers a feature called “Vanish Mode” on its messaging service. Any text or media you send in Vanish mode will be automatically erased when the recipient sees it.
To access Vanish mode, you must first have the latest version of the Instagram app on your Android smartphone or iPhone.
Then open the Instagram app on your phone and swipe in from the left edge of the screen (or tap the speech bubble button at the top right) to view a list of your direct messages.
Select the conversation you want to use Vanish mode for.
Swipe up above the text box to activate Vanish mode. Once that’s done, Instagram will update your chat background with a darker shade and add a few animations to let you know that Vanish mode is active.
In Vanish mode, you can continue to chat and send messages normally in all common formats, such as instant stories, voice clips and more.
The difference is that once you swipe up again to exit Vanish mode and the other person reads what you sent, Instagram will delete those messages.
While the recipient is free to take a screenshot of your messages in Vanish mode, Instagram will let you know if and when they do.
Keep in mind that Instagram will keep your Vanish Mode media and text messages for up to an hour after they are deleted. This is the case if the recipient files a report of abuse and harassment and Instagram needs the data from the Vanish Mode to take action.
There are many more ways you can have a more personalized experience on Instagram, such as controlling who can comment on your posts and limiting troll accounts.
