Siri can be useful, but if you have an Apple Watch, the virtual assistant can accidentally show up all the time, especially when you’re working out. Here’s how to prevent Siri from showing on your watch.
Why your Apple Watch activates Siri
By default, you can activate Siri in three ways on the Apple Watch:
- Hold down the Digital Crown.
- Tap the screen or turn your wrist to wake up your Apple Watch and say “Hey Siri.”
- Bring your watch to your mouth and just start speaking (with an Apple Watch Series 3 or later.)
Unfortunately, between three different ways (four if you add the Siri complication to your watch face), I activate Siri a lot more often than I mean. I accidentally hold the Digital Crown down pretty much every time I do a pushup, bench press, or burpee, and Siri starts talking to me regularly when I eat, drink, or just rest my head on my hand. If you have the same kind of issues, here’s how to change when Siri activates – or turn it off altogether.
How to turn off Siri on your Apple Watch
On your watch, go to Settings> Siri. Under Ask Siri, there are three toggles:
- “Listen to ‘Hey Siri'”
- “Get up to speak”
- “Press Digital Crown”
To turn Siri off completely, turn all three off and tap Turn Siri Off. Otherwise, disable the triggers you don’t want. I left on “Listen to ‘Hey Siri'” but turned off the other two which I kept on accidentally activating.
